Nice fly By, not the kind of fly buys you expect from a person of your age...... JK GI Good to see you on the bike mate!
Cheers guys Tyson ...wheres the fun if the needle doesnt hit the red occasionally? Good day out for the mindset ........ we were actually out on the back roads to give ol mate (Grasshopper) a run on the bike as he recently got his Ls ..... and they are his carbys still on there! ...and yes of course with all the hooning I ran outta fuel again on the way home .....luckily the Alfa pit crew was on hand to grab the fuel container from home Old age ...its a wonderful thing ....
what series are those carbs from on Grasshoppers bike? I'm intrigued - they're clearly well tuned, no more chugging after slowing to a stop I assume?
His bike is a 3LN3 ..... the carbys we can only guess are also. Theres none of the previous issues present so its safe to assume my problems are carby related totally. The guy we bought the 3LN3 from was a young guy but built bikes for a living ...or some such thing. He supposedly did the valves and rebuilt the carbs , among other things. I rode the 3LN3 before we started stripping it down and it went like a rocket. I have no idea if the jets are changed or wateva else he has done to the internals or the float heights etc.... as much as Id like to know Im not touching them ...they work , so Im not fiddling with them.
Enjoyed the ride as well..... Can't wait to get the 3LN3 on the road! Grey forgot to include these photos....
As I understand it Mr Grey's 'chugging' problem has vanished into the ether, at least for the moment, but as shown by a video that he posted, carb slide number one is not lifting. It seems like this might be the last of the Fizzer's carb issues. Over to you Mr Grey; did I get it right? cheers all Blair
Yea My next move with my carbs is to fit those new float o rings u just sent and fix that slide.... then a test run .... and maybe a bench sync as I think I put them way out with trying to do it with the gauges way back. Explain to me exactly wat makes the slides lift ..... or would it just be the slide its self is not moving freely?
Vacuum. You pull the throttle which opens the butterfly. This allows a bit more fuel/air mixture which in turn increases vacuum which in turn lifts the slide (which is why the rubber diaphragm must not have holes in it) which in turn lets more air/fuel in etc Possible reasons 1/ Hole in diaphragm 2/ blocked vacuum passage 3/ stuck slide
Mr. Grasshopper better have his carbs on his bike once I make my way up there, or there will be trouble! Or, if all three bikes are working, we will have triple trouble
Better give me a time span to work with ....things are a little slow in the shed ATM Actually the carbs wont help much presently as the tank ,seat, gauges, rear wheel etc are missing and its up on chocks ...... Heres the Grasshopper doing the fizz dance and riding his carbys .....
Hi Fizzer Owners, Just to add to the horrible unclear "fuel level should be measured from where" issue, and since all of the posts on this topic are buried in Mr Grey's epic saga. I proudly present - another one. This is from the European Yamaha XJ600 Diversion model. It uses the same carbs as the 250 Zeal except they are 28mm bore. It is interesting to note that the manual also gives a float level. cheers Blair
