We just spent a frustrating weekend trying to get the carbs on a gsxr to work. But it's a worked race engine & we know little about the mods. On the diaphram side of things, with all the many times taking the tank off & on & airbox & carbs, we forgot to connect the cap vent tubes, which I think on the fizzers will be the vent tubes, and in doing so the vacuum pressure was lost to the atmosphere & hence no lift of the slides well very little anyway & she ran like a dog, slow struggle to rev & no pull power at all, impossible to reach 9rpm out of 13K. We actually wasted 1/2 a day till we realized what we had done & then we got on with it, still not right yet though, jetting up & down & fouling plugs & forgetting to connect the vacuum hose to the fuel tank tap, fouling plugs again, enough to drive you to drink. So anyway check that those one way valves aren't leaking causing loss of vacuum hence lift of the slides to varying degrees.
Have done exactly the same thing whilst balancing the carbs. Promptly put the tank back on and tried it out just to be sure, not good. Looked on the ground and saw the 4 rubber caps, put them on and she ran perfectly, my bad.
Hi fnq_fzr, Great job at the island. You mean a tooth or two less on the rear sprocket. Can you tell us what size did you end up using for your float seat o-rings. Also with regard to the ones that you replaced, were they new genuine parts? I will have some thicker ones available for the 250's shortly and any extra information on this would be useful. cheers Blair
The only thing I did was swap carbs ... everything else is equal. Im going to also try those other carbs (from Chris) just for curiosity. Im not going to touch the working carbs as much as Id like to see what jets etc are there but I will do the external fuel levels. The #1 slide moves freely by hand, equal to the others.
I had a link somewhere to reasonably priced diaphragms - let me know if you need to replace one. It would be great to know the fuel levels considering all of the consternation we've been through over that one issue peace out
Yea been there , done that ..... I cant remember which carb I put the new one in but it was 1 or 4 http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/carb-diaphragms-for-fzr.1689/
I should have known the source for the link in the first place I must say the parts research skills on this forum are unsurpassed http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/carb-diaphragms-for-fzr.1689/ looking at the pics from the thread - you replaced the diaphragm on carb n0 #4
Have you had a chance to do the fuel level? My fuel pump has arrived and I'm fitting it today so I'll be checking the fuel level also... peace out
Thanks Blair. Yep. A tooth or two less on the rear sprocket. Always get it round the wrong way. . The O-rings I can't be sure about. They were not genuine items though. They fixed up some flat spots I was having...
Hi Mr Grey, Someone on the 400 GreyBike forum had the same thing happening as you on their VFR. Turns out that the fuel tap vacuum takeoff is for that cylinder and the hose was split. http://www.400greybike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=46516 I don't know if the Fizzer has the same setup for the fuel tap but thought it might be worth mentioning. cheers Blair
On the topic of the o-rings for the float valve seat: There has been one stuff up after another resulting in continuous delays. However, I should have the exceptionally large optional o-rings (7.50 * 2.00 a standard metric size) in stock next week and they will be added to all 250 Yamaha kits as an 'extra'. I will also make a video to show how they fit, or don't fit, in a BDST carb that has the correct tolerances. Then I will post a set to all 250 customers along with instructions. There has not been enough conclusive evidence yet regarding this but there is enough information, from members on this forum and other sources, to suggest that some 250s do not create a firm fit with the standard size o-ring. As such, it is not acceptable to supply an o-ring that might not be tight enough for such a critical application, and that is regardless of whether or not it is affecting the running of the engine. cheers Blair
Today on the Fizz Double demerits ? ... blah blah blah And if you look closely at this photo u will notice the fuel cap open ...... no prizes for guessing why Phil ... you are banned from commenting
Mr. Grey Unlike a good bottle of red wine that requires opening and allowed to breath........... your bike does not Ok the bike sounds great........... The black Alfa looks great...........The rider, well that's another story. Good to see you burning up the bitumen....... The man has a need, a need for speed
