Ahh well ..... my patience is done with ........ running in the driveway .. yes .... running on the road .... no

same old **** .... 2 blocks away and stop and no start ..... seems the fuel pump is screaming , so I open the cap .... start.

get back in the driveway ..... oil light staying on ..... rev the **** outta it and more smoke than ever.

When I had put all new fuel lines on earlier today, it started first go and idled perfectly ...... it also screamed up the road like stink again till I pulled over to turn back home (had no helmet on)

So after all that work it just does the same thing as before .

And the tacho isnt working now either .

    Im over it.

Bar ends came from here ..... but they took like 6 months to get here cuz they stuffed up the order .... they were just on special at the time so I added them to an order I was getting anyway. They suddenly were on back order therefore held up all the other important parts I needed ..... morons

Does it always go again once you open the fuel cap? Sounds like your fuel tank is not venting thus creating a vacuum and starving the carbs. Try going for a little ride with the cap open.

Old bikes are all like this unless you pick up an unbelievable piece of treasure like Kiffsta's NC30. Don't give up now Mr Grey. Just imagine you bought the Fizzer yesterday as an unfinished restoration project from a bloke named Mr Brown, and now you are going to see it to the finish line (cue Rocky theme). Or throw a blanket over it, open a beer and come back next week. :drinks:

Yea I cant go too far otherwise I cant roll back home ..... the tank breather should be ok as u can hear it 'whistle' every so often when the bike is sitting.
I think I had it on 'on' instead of reserve and it only has a few litres in it..... not thinking too clearly ATM
I think theres **** floating in the tank also .... maybe I should take my own advice and clean it out again.

What bothers me is the oil light and to a lesser degree suddenly no tacho ..... the bike hasnt even been used for fucks sake.

I think my problem is I have no beer and and all I ever seem to do is 'come back next week' :headbang:

I wonder if it is an electrical issue. Maybe from that little black box under the pillion seat.

Yea just started on that route .... swapped out the main relay just for the oil light / tacho ..... no change ..... plugged in the spare dash and tach worked but oil light still on .
I will swap out the CDI and also get under and see if the wire to the oil level sensor is broken or wateva .... I think I remember reading somewhere that if its 'disconnected' it stays on. (that doesnt make one bit of sense :idk:)

Well the fuel thing might have just been my stupidity .... I put more fuel in and put it on res and got to the top of the hill and back down ... even made it to top gear.
    Oil light remained on though

On the oil light .... can anyone with an FZR tell me if u have red oil and green neutral light come on when u first turn the key?

IIRC, it was only a neutral.

My Bandit has 3 lights come when the ignition is switched on. 1 red oil 2 red temp 3 green neutral.
Once the engine is started the 2 red lights go out, only the green neutral light remains on until a gear is engaged.
I would consider this pretty standard across most bikes. Hope this helps.
You may have a faulty sender unit, if the engine is full of oil what else can it be.

THe oil light comes on with the key switched and the run switch is in the off position, it then switches off when the run switch is turned to the on position. No idea about the light coming on when the engine is running, because I haven't gotten that far yet...

    peace out

    Hey Grey
I have been looking into your oil light remaining on, seems to be a far more common issue than I had thought.
The first advise is this, is the level correct, if a fraction low top up and many posting said this was the answer?
Sender units, wiring problems, the list is long and requires checking multiple areas. Keep us posted on your progress.

Yea thats why I was asking someone with an FZR as to what theirs does.

In that thread dontz125 made this comment
The low oil level light only comes on while the start button is pressed (key and kill switches on, obviously).

As much as he is an expert on bike electronics I think that is horse ****.

As Phil mentions its a pretty standard situation across any vehicle ....turn on ignition and your 'warning' lights etc come on and the appropriate ones extinguish when motor is 'started'

And as the Huntsman says the usual thing is it goes out when hitting the starter ....if theres no problem of course.
And as ruckusman notes it goes out when u hit the kill switch to run.
Not sure with the ZXR but the FZR has an oil LEVEL light as opposed to an oil PRESSURE light.

Phil : The oil level may have dropped slightly with all the smokin ..... it looks ok in the sight glass but a little hard to see accurately while balancing the bike level.

I might drop the oil and see how much is in there...... or just top it up and see what happens

I pulled the sender unit out of the spare motor .... mongrel to get out even with the motor upside down ... I would have to remove the headers as the exup is in the way.

I get the missus to hold the bike level haha :p

The header isn't all that hard to take off is it? although you may wanna explore the other avenues first.

Some comments I was reading said that topping up the oil just a little got rid of the problem. Thought it might be worth a try to see that remedies your dilemma. Seeing yours is an oil level light as compared to an oil pressure switch they could be correct, try it and see.
