What ever method works for you is good. I like to work smarter, not harder as I am basically a lazy bugger. Grandfather always told me that "laziness is no good unless carried out properly."
Well I decided the original lower fork is a lost cause, that upper bushing looks like it's been JB-Welded in place. Couldn't get it to budge. Pulled apart a spare left fork & got all the other fork bits into it. But I can't get the bottom bolt that holds the damper rod (and fluid) in place to bite. Tried a longer bolt to no avail. Last hurdle before the forks are done... any advice is welcome
You might have to take it apart & clean & dry it all out with metho or petrol to remove the slip & get it to bite. If you get desperate try the rattle gun on a low setting at first & see if that bites, but finish it by hand so it doesn't strip
Put the spring into the fork leg so it puts some tension on the damper rod to hold it while you put the bolt in.
Yeah that's how we had it, fully assembled with the cap on with the spring and spacer inside. Wouldn't bite the thread. Going to have another go tomorrow.
As Risky said, trial fit the bolt into the damper rod without the fork leg. If there is a sleeve machined into the bottom of the fork leg that the rod must fit into then the damper rod might be misaligned. Move it back into the correct position by inserting a rod through the bolt hole and moving the rod into the correct position. Since you have the cap etc on, you can invert the fork and you might also be able to see if the rod is fully home and aligned correctly to accept the bolt.
Sorted For those playing at home .... the damper rod must be out the end of the tube and then held there by the spring etc.
Both forks back together & front wheel is on the bike. No word on the new fairings yet... chasing them up
OK so I've been getting very worried about the fairings as it's been about 7 weeks... but I finally got an update from Fairing Solutions, and a big box from China has landed in Tamworth (got the tracking #). Water pump parts from Japan also arriving tomorrow.
Here we go! Unfortunately, they stuffed up the front cowling and gave it the dual headlight cutout and the 3LN3+ screen tabs (the long bits). Fortunately we should be able to still fit a round headlight into it. It won't be as it left the factory though. Easily fixed by painting one of the many front cowls we have.
looks great, but to be honest , if you ordered a 3ln6 kit and they shipped you the wrong parts, then I would go back and make them send the right one, put it back on fairing solutions , you are the customer and have paid good money. I wouldn't accept it as is.
I've already messaged them regarding that... infact it was one of my opening comments before I made the order... Maybe something got lost in translation!?
