Hey guys hektik weekend with cricket and work on the bikes! Yes I did say bikes! I have purchased a parts bike :) brand new perilla sport demons, good condition fuel tank and peacock if only I had all the fairings to match the burgundy tank! Lol. I have done my Litetek seal kit after it arrived on Thursday :)

I put the bike together and went to fire her but left the fuel hose on the tank not the carb and have out the air box on hahahah rookie. Will be spending more time on it tomorrow :)

Seeing ajs bike has givin me a little incentive for a street fighter though!

So close but yet so far, I through the Litetek kit in the set of carbs from the part bike as it had no snapped air box screws as opposed to many lol, cleaned them I thought very well, set all the pilot screws to 2 1/2 turns.

Turn it over.... Success! A few blips of the throttle.... Looking good returning to idle nicely... check. Let it warm up and go WOT... UH OH that doesn't sound right. So it's running perfectly for anything 1/4 throttle to about 4k revs then after that not well at all.

So it's running nicely on the pilot jets but not the mains
I used the jets from my other set of carbs and made sure they were in the right spots.

I'm thinking a blockage I didn't clean out properly from one of the main jet channels I did use a shitload of carby cleaner and my air compressor however....

So after a second bout of carb cleaning yesterday I have an inline 3 and 3/4, I don't have full power but all 4 pipes are hot! do you guys think I still have a blockage in there I swear to god I got it out! Also after this bout of cleaning it is running lean on the pilots whereas before it seemed rich :idk:I was thinking of switching the needles from my other set of carbs also.

Possibly risky unfortunately I'm camping for the weekend and can't take the carbs apart again until Monday morning I'm getting frustrated though!

Thanks for the compliment, makes all the effort worth it :D

Make sure your pilots are all 2 turns out, if you want it to run rich (really good for top end but makes the bottom end a bit rough) 2.5 turns out on all 4. This will make your engine run noticeably cooler as well, not even kidding!

Two tricks I learned with the carbs, if you have access to a guitar, cut about 2-3cm off the high E string, use this to clean your jets as it will fit through, also soaking jets in coca cola overnight really helps if you're in a tight spot. Also if you can get access to an ultrasonic jewellery cleaner, chuck your jets in it and give it half an hour, if that doesn't clean them up I honestly don't know what will.

    Cheers and goodluck! :drinks:

Well after a busy month and being a little disheartened I have not got it running 100% yet I'm taking the tarp off the ZXR and pulling the carbs off again! I have a plan and will post results :)

Thanks aj, I used the carbies off my parts bike as on the outside they looked a lot better and put a carb kit through that set.. I think it had e10 fuel sitting in it so even after a couple of cans of carb cleaner I must have a clogged channel somewhere there was a lot of lacquer like stuff on the jets and floats. I'm going the completely strip them and soak in acetone overnight. Making sure all orings are out.

If you want to make it look better on the outside, get a rag and some metal polish and give it a rub, will look like new. Use a paintbrush for the hard to reach spots. Don't do it to the rubber. I suggest against acetone as it's not great for rubber parts, you might come back to dissolved parts.. Just use coca cola, it legitimately works. Use a pipe cleaner to help dislodge stuck on crap. Show us some photos of the jets if you need confirmation they are clean.

I know the jets are clean but possibly a blockage elsewhere, acetone should be fine as I am stripping all the rubber out.

Blasting every hole and orifice (including jets) with compressed air is a must .... as in real compressed air from a gun and compressor.

2 carbs have been soaked and cleaned and put back together and the other 2 are soaking. I have noticed a couple of inconsistencies between the 2 sets I have one set of needles has a small washer whereas the other doesn't .

Any of you guys Know if there is meant to be one or not?

Also 3 of the pilot screws were missing orings ( i didnt do the screw orings the first time )
