    A few pics after the past weeks bit of work I've sanded some surface rust off of the rotors and exhaust and gave her a clean this arvo. :dance2:

    Hey guys just did an oil change on the old girl :) glad I did the oil filter was basically fused to the bike! I ended up having to stab a screwdriver through it to take it off so god knows how long it was on there! It turns out the sump plug thread is stripped as well :( on the sump part as the bolt looks ok but I can't get the bloody thing to go tight:commando:
    Now I've got a little oil leak from it :headbang:

    Any of you knowledgable fellas have a stop gap fix for this?

    Do u have any plumbers/teflon tape?

    Has it got a washer ? ... if so remove it .... if not try and find a flat one to fit it.

    you can buy oversize sump plugs and a tap and rethread.or use plumbers teflon tape on the thread or drain oil and wash sump plug .apply urethane and screw in and allow 24 hours to dry. repeat at each oil change or do sump plug up on fibre washer. only one permanent fix is to retap or helicoil thread which is a good solution.

    A copper or a crush washer or a fibre one as risky says .... it might be enough to get it to tighten and seal it better ,till u can look at a more permanent fix ......
    Have a really close look at the thread in the sump to see how bad it is and to make sure its that and not the bolt.

    Think risky is correct, if you want a permanent solution, either get a new larger sump plug and get it taped out or get a helicoil fitted. Both are sound solution, doubt you want to go through the wringer every time you want to change the oil. Also mate, when fitting the new oil filter, a little dab of oil on the rubber seal and tighten by hand, firmly but not over the top, simply not required. Of course making certain the surface is clean.
    Had to laugh when you had to put a screw driver through the filter to get off, have done the same many a time.:thumb_ups:

    did that with the new filter mate, many an obscenity was uttered when trying to get the bloody thing off, yeah I was hoping to save the new oil that is in it but when i retap it with an oversize plug it will put metal in the sump won't it?

    drain new oil into clean ice cream contaier anfd refill after tapping out. tapping out is also done with helicoil and there is another type of helicoil in use now but i forget its name. check your sump plug thread and see if worn and with teflon tape ...white is the thinnest and cheapest, then pink which seals more difficult threads then yellow which is used on gas pipes.from experience buy from a plumbers supply store and not from bunings.

    put grease on the tap and it should collect the metal chips. slightly in, turn a third and back off, repeat many times, slow and steady wins the race. helicoils used to cost 20 bucks to fit but a long time i last had one installed.

    removing difficult oil filter can be done by wrapping rope around and using that to turn the filter.

    An update, now the sump is proper stuffed :(, but I have found a secondhand one to pick up in my suburb. So I got pretty lucky there. Should have it on by this arvo.
