    Hi! I'm new to this site so this is my first post.
    I've been planning on buying a Yamaha FZR 250 r 1990 model.. Or so I'm told it is..
    I'm not so well informed or experienced with this bike or bikes in general.. So I was wondering if you could tell me some facts about it?? Like is it actually a 1990 modell?? Is it Just an FZR 250 rr or is it more details to the name or??
    And also it has 21000rpm and when I look at facts or specifications of the 250r's I just see like max 16000rpm and such.. So that's a bit wierd.. But have seen some youtube vids with bikes up to 21000 =) But the guy I'm planning to buy it from doesn't have any manual in english or Norwegian.. So do you guys have any copies or any sites with a manual for this bike?? In English or Norwegian??
    And here at home when I call the garages and work shops and such to ask for parts and how hard it is to get parts, all they answer is that this is a rare bike and it's very hard to get parts to it.. So If you guys have any god tips of any sites or such with parts for this bike, that would really really help! =)
    Here's some pics of the bike.. I think it's a reeaaaaaaal beauty! <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->
    It has a laaaarg dent in the fuel tank tho <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( --> And a scratch on the right coupe... So Im changing the fuel tank as soon as I get it =)
    Well, I hope I'll get quick answers and that you can understand what I'm trying to say :p
    I'm Norwegian and soon turning 18 so I'm not that good in English ;)
    Seen pics of you guys bikes and they are hot <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->
    It's a good forum ^^

    Welcome to the forums JeyKey,

    Firstly, i love that scheme, its definetely a 3LN-3 (deltabox frame) and a more aggresive riding position.

    Secondly, it wont hit 21k RPM :p

    Third, manuals are readily available from the forums
    FZR 400 (alot of parts are the same -- english) - <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?t=327">viewtopic.php?t=327</a><!-- l -->
    FZR 250 (japanese only -- as they were never manufactured outside of Japan) - <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?t=2889">http://www.fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?t=2889</a><!-- m -->

    Fourthly.. they're very rare, alot of the parts are not being manufactured anymore (I just spent a good $4,500 AUD && 11 months restoring mine from the ground up -- horrible experience)

    oooh.. Well I guess that's good actually?? Since the engine gets faster weared out with high RPMs??? :p
    Oh thank you <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> I was wondering if the parts for the 400 was some what similar =)
    Aiiii! that's alot :p That's actually the extact same amount he want's for this bike, and I have to change the fuel tank and maybe some othe small fixes.. Everyting's extremely expensive here in Norway-.-

    Thank you very much for your help Romantix <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

    The engine will rev to 18,000rpm on this model and it is a 1990 model by looking at the paint scheme and headlight shape.
    Unfortunately FZR400 parts are mostly incompatible.

    It looks very well presented.

    Just make sure that you take it for a decent ride and look for carburetor problems in particular. The bike should accelerate smoothly from 5,000 rpm on.

    Ok. Thank you guys <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->
    Aaaah :/ That's sad to hear :/

    Yeah, but there's a laaarge bump in the fuel tank.. So I'm planning on changing it for the summer.. Was going to post a pic of the damage but thought there were enough pics :p So that it doesn't end up as spam ;)

    And what should I look for when I ride then?? To find out if there's carburetor problems??
    I'm sorry, but this is going to be my first bike, and it's the first chance to get a bike certificate in Norway.. So I lack alot of knowledge about bikes :p
    Thanks for the help guys =)
    Going on a ski-weekend this weeken to use my skis which I haven't used for like 2 years :S So that's why I'm not answering for 3 days ;)

    Take care =)

    I would clean the carbies out regardless, ride before and after, you'll notice the difference.

    Thing's to look out for ... unsettled idle would be the biggest one.

    And while im here, add a perty picture :p - before the restoration

    any fzr250's part can be purchased... go to auctions.yahoo.co.jp.... you will need proxy services and pay them a premium in addition to the shippings withing japan to their warehouse + international shipping... its pretty much like... in short its spend the buck and you'll get the part idea....

    findapart.com.au - is also beneficial, you'll find almost anything through them (it contacts a wide range of wreckers/dealerships australia-wide)'

    I'm sure they'll be more then happy to ship internationally <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

    This is my FZR250, bought as a winter run about because it was quite cheap. Doing a few things to it but not much.
    So far new battery, fuel filter, oil, oil filter & plugs. Soon to have a few clutch bits done.

    Doesn't carburate 100% but more than good enough to commute on <!-- s:-| --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_bike.gif" alt=":-|" title="Bike" /><!-- s:-| -->

    Really needs a new muffler but not sure where to get or what can fit <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( -->

    Sounds like you need to pull, clean, and synchronize your carbs. Not hard, just involved. Do ONE carb at a time; there's nothing worse than having the guts of four carbs mixed in a pile and wondering "Now, where the F! did that piece go..." <!-- s:alcoholic: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_all_coholic.gif" alt=":alcoholic:" title="Alcoholic" /><!-- s:alcoholic: -->

    As for mufflers, if you mean just the slip-on just about anything can be made to fit.

    Thats a brand new chain sprocket what you are seeing is lube on it which is a whitish colour - every time I 'ride' it i have to clean the grease off the swing arm and rear rim.
    But yes the bike has minor fairing damage on the left, I don't know how the previous owner did that, he sold it to me for a quick $800 smackers!!! (I think i got a good deal, as the bike now runs perfectly)

    $800... man, consider yourself one of the luckiest people ive met (who owns a FZR) i payed $4,300 for mine. with the steering head bearing's gone, sprocket destroyed (to the point the chain was skipping over the sprocket) carbs were way out of balance, brakes needed replacing, noises in the motor. I got fuckin jipped.. however, since ive owned the little fizzer, its payed off with the knowledge ive gained owning one. They're one in a million ++ they go good for a 250 <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

    Ive chopped up a few cibbies and zxr's, rs125's and even the rvf400's in my road riding experience on the fzr250.

    all-in-all --- im jealous.

    p.s - welcome to the forums

    Thanks Romantix,

    When it was wheeled out from under this guys house I knew that the bike was going to be a good one. Since then I have pulled all of the fairings off cleaned and serviced the bike, painted and polished the exhaust and the muffler. I was amazed how the bikes sound improved when the chain and sprockets were replaced (My rear was getting a little sharp), I got the guys at Yamaha to stiffen up the suspension to 6 (it was originally 3) since I only weigh 70 kg's and the bike was basically collapsing when I sat in it. Having ridden it on the weekend I have been able to see the performance of the bike (safely), for a 250 I think it punches well above it's weight <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

    but its dead now.
    i dont know if i will hold onto it or just send it off to track racing spares land..
    i would love to hold onto it because its a great base to build from. but i gotta pay for the zx9r i just agreed to buy..
