this is the little jigger on the track. Its not really competitve in the class, but I still had a lot of fun playing with old mate on his GSX-R 400.

    G'day all, Im Tony.

I cant say the pics are of "My" FRZ because I bought it on behalf of my Son who turned 18 today.
He stumped up the cash and I spent it for him basically because he admits he knows nothing about Bikes and I have some history with em.

That said it was a toss up between an MC19 CBR, The later Yam with the funny name and a classic Fizza and after a month or 2 of looking I went the FZR, Why?

Well the Zeal seemed a bit bland, CBR's were pretty knocked about or silly money and I remember a blat I enjoyed years ago on an FZR from Belgrave to Gembrook before the road was better and it was a pleasant memory.

    Piccies!

Got the Wife to hold the bike up while i took a few piccies and this is how the bike arrived

Im sending it to the local Yamaha workshop to be prepped for a roadworthy but I want to gather a few parts before I do that.

A quick once over and i reckon she will need a front rotor and pads, New chain and sprockets etc and as the silver has started to come off on the headlights (Cibies) I think they will fail as well.

The plastics also need attention and remounting with some love as they are a bit busted around the mount holes, not surprising considering she is 27 years old (1987 FZR 250).

Front tyre is about 50% so a new sticky tyre goes on as well.

The compliance was done in 2002 in QLD if that matters? and the headlight switch is permanently in the "On" Position.

She rides ok and the bike was delivered by the seller, a 70 km trip which the bike did no dramas.

My son also asked if I could adjust the take up point on the clutch lever a little closer to the grip.

    So thats the story!

    Tony

BTW, once on the road I will be "Borrowing" the old girl once or so a week to keep an eye on her condition, Any excuse eh?

    Disappointing to hear of another new rider taken down! <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( -->

Most of the things are minor or can be fixed easily. Tacho light globe is not hard to replace, proper battery connections can be fitted to the terminals. The clutch and throttle cables are adjustable, or easily replaced. After market levers are cheap on ebay.

It will take a bit more effort to correct the stalling and flooding. Both most likely related to the carby float level valves being worn or just not sealing because of dirt in them.

    Keep us posted..

This is a pretty old thread, moved over from another site. Have a look above, item #15 is important. @GreyImport has a better photo I think.
