knew I'd read about 400 engine parts on a 250 - cylinder head, though pics never appeared

    http://fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=3409&p=25754#wrap

The sensible approach would be to just buy a 400

    peace out

chinese head gaskets arrived today and the metal is thinner and both head and base gaskets will do but are not the genuine quality.the de restricted cdi also arrived and went to fit and the registered fzr 2kr has a 3hx cdi which is different wiring. the other 2kr,s i have have the 2kr cdi.they are parts bikes. does anyone know of a quick solution as would like to try it before stripping the motor??????

You'll pick up an increase in compression with the thinner gaskets.
That might create all sorts of tuning challenges.
But It'll give you an increase in HP !

not significantly thinner - i.e. not enough to risk the pistons crowning and touching the head

I heard that when they raced the RGV 250's in production class they got onto thinner head gaskets to increase the compression & made a gain in power.

there's a nice little tweak of eliminating the head gasket altogether and getting the barrels o-ringed then making up for the difference by increasing base gasket thickness which has the added bonus of raising exhaust port timing without altering the actual barrel itself - tricky HUH!

Heaps of great info about these tricks on the Aprilia RS250 forums

I wish i still had my RGV

graham, 43.12$aus when i bought and had in a week. however you probably need valve stem seals and head and base gasket. motobaby has the cheap gaskets and erica has the rings and seals and bearings. posted by singapore post. ebay.com not au.you will have it under 10days. i was surprised how quick.certain i posted both names up before in the thread.where are you at?

Just helped to fit the Tyga s/s exhaust, expansion chamber & muffler, to the RS 125.
    Nice note now.
Didn't fit too well though, the lower mounting tab missed by about 30mm.
Should be a noticeable boost in power, if nothing it sounds better

Risky... hows the rebuild going?? I did a re-bore on the blue 250 when I first got it... you can get good cheap head/base gasket kits out of china... the problem is the base gasket is paper... but for the cost it was worth it just for the head gaskets. Base gaskets, the steel shim ones, can be re-used (with ultra grey sealant), and with the bore oil squirt fittings being held in place, you wouldn't use the paper/cardboard bore gasket anyway...

got the parts but the falcon came off the jack and landed on me. the wheels were still on but a crossmember on the chest and swaybar across the teeth laid me low with a week in hospital with sister morphine and i still have dizzy spells and a nursing home senior citizen could move faster than me. have the gaskets, rings, bearings and valve stem seals and carby gaskets.will be on it in a month when the ribs heal.

Hells bells Risky. Glad to hear that you are still with us. Maybe a new jack system is on the cards.
