no update as of yet, life took over and proddie took a back seat. engines out but not looked at. hoping to get to it this week. i have about 4 weeks to get my **** together.
So Motors out and heads off.......looks like she was running hot! nothing obvious around the head.....leading me more to think its a spun bearing. I've two bottom ends on offer and a full motor (just has a crack in the lower casing) on offer to me so i'm going to use them to make one.......and maybe a second in a while..... from looking at it i don't think this is the first time the heads been off? stay tuned.
so a little update, got a full engine with 1500 klms on it dropped to my door last night......only catch is that its come off a bike that t-boned a gets and has a small crack in the bottom casing. engine runs but weeps.... Going to see if i can get it welded up rather than swapping over the bottom crank case from mine....... i'll keep you in the loop.
You may not be able to just swap the bottom case as they are machined as a pair and fitting a different half may cause binding of the main bearings.

I would be able to do that in situ. Just give it a good clean with thinners and grind a 'V' into the crack, warm the area with a heating torch (gas or oxy) to burn out any oil in the crack and weld whilst still hot. Wrap in an old blanket to allow it to cool slowly.
Murdo you beaut! i'll start the prep work tonight and see if i can get one of the guys to do the welding.....mig i'm guessing?
MIG would be okay, but with a TIG you will be able to keep the heat in one spot to burn out any contaminates that might bubble to the surface before adding the filler rod.
