In WA there is 250cc Production class racing that started this year. So far we have had round 1 back in May and there is currently 2 more rounds that are to happen later this year……clearly I have already missed the start of the season J
I only really took notice of it back at the start of April and mulled with the idea of doing it. I was talking to a friend of mine who advised me of a low sided Ninja up for grabs…..and sure who was I to say no?! J
So I was convinced and was then told to take the finger out, get the bike sorted……(bike had not even arrived in my garage yet) as round 1 was in 3 weeks……..hummmmm.
On bringing the bike home and from starting the stripping process it was clear that it was not going to be the a simple and straight forward task…..it was clear I was not going to have the parts, or better yet the money for the parts by RD1. So the call was made to say…..I’ll see you at RD1 but I won’t be racing…..but the aim no is to have it all done, tuned and dusted by RD2…..whenever that might be J
So that’s the story of how I ended up where I am now with the bike…..but I think the interesting thing is the bike so I shall continue:
Bike is a 2012 Ninja 250. Previous owner clearly lacked the skill of caring and maintaining one’s bike. With the exception of a new filter and fresh oil and the damage from the low side, the Ninja needs some TLC, sad for such a new bike.
The Production rules are fairly straight forward as to what you can and cannot do to your bike:
    You are allowed the following…
    Slip on muffler
    Carb Jetting
    Air filter
    Clip-on’s
    Rear sets
    Braded lines
    Lock wire
    Toe guard
    Engine guards
    Race glass
Removal of items that don’t fit the race glass J
To make the bike useable I need, on top of the above, the following….
    Radiator
    Overflow bottle
    Rear disc
    Plugs
    Oil Filter
    Oil
    Oil cap
    Brake fluid
    Tyres
    Front and rear pads
    Tune.
Unfortunately for me it’s going to be a slow process, after binning my Fizzer on the last track day my money has been spent on sourcing parts for that and it been on paddock stands has also prompted much needed maintenance and as you all know once you start spending….it adds up very quick. So that among other things is slowing this project down……but not to worry I’ll keep cracking away at what I can.
So below is the pictures of when it arrived in my garage, I didn’t take any of all the stripping as that took a whole of about 5 minutes :p
I’ll get some more pictures up soon and I’ll keep you posted.

so not a huge update but an update none the less.

so started doing some further stripping and found the rad to be damaged past repair along side the over flow bottle. so they are now gone.

so i got my ordering going so i can start making so proper progress with this bike.

hopefully it will all start arriving soon.

i'll update with pictures as soon as it all starts to arrive.

OK So Long over an update on this. no pictures this time but soon.

so I have received a few bits that will get the bike mobile, like the radiator and overflow bottle but truth been told the bike has sat in the garage gathering dust for the past while. I got reminded last week that the next round is at the start of October so I need to get me finger out……..my poor credit card just took a bashing…..stayed tuned, I’m hoping I can pull it together in 5 weeks…….I’ll keep you posted. :prankster:

With the end of your muffler, can you turn it around a bit?
I watched a vid of some yanks on the salt flats where they got another 5mph top speed on their ninja 1000 by turning the outlet of the exhaust in towards the tyre so that the hot gases were directed into the turbulent air behind the bike. This may not make any difference to your bike at the relative slow speeds of the baby ninja, but every little bit helps ( and you get the other riders thinking you have an advantage, so you've beat them before leaving the pits).

OK folks, here's an update! got time last night to do some bits, said I'd start with removing the wheels for the tyres to be done today. well lucky for me I did. unsure how i managed to get 1/2 way through the build and only realised now........the bloody frame is BENT!!!!

i have a little over a week to either:
A find a new ninja for VERY small money
    B find a spare frame
C get my frame fixed (if that's possible)

so needless to say i'm in a pickle and im meant to be racing the weekend after next........hummmmmmmm. :headbang:

Maybe call around and see if someone can straigten it, or ask if any of the other proddy racers have one spare, the only cheap ones are ones that have been dropped and you might end up with something similar

Righto......time for an update.....so to give you an idea of how bent the frame is please draw your attention to the angle of the forks and front wheel.......
    Frame change (1).JPG

the new frame.....its a stat write off but its straight and meh well its a track bike so i don't really Mind. Bike went from been a 2012 to a 2008.....But at least its straight now :)
    Frame change (2).JPG

So there really isn't a huge amount of Pictures as i just got stuck in as i wanted it done, so the strip down started at 5:30pm....
    Frame change (3).JPG

Engine out and all that jazz.....6:30pm...
    Frame change (4).JPG

    Old frame off.........7:00pm
    Frame change (5).JPG

non bent frame on the left bent frame on the right.....really is nothing to them :( Frame change (6).JPG

same goes with the engine, so small and simple.
    Frame change (7).JPG

Cant really see it all that well, but this is the stuffed frame.
If your look at the top of it you can see the tubes bending to the left :) Frame change (8).JPG

And after a break for dinner, desert and a cuppa we got back to it and by 10PM this is as far as we got.
    Frame change (9).JPG

back on the tools the minute i get back in the door tonight, i have tonight and tomorrow to get it finished and get it on the trailer........lots of fiddly things to be done....fingers crossed for me folks!

OK so not many pictures from last night, in fact none at all, took two quick snaps on my way out the door this morning.......got in the zone and didn't think about it.

so last night we got all the fiddly bits done, all the bolts drilled for lock wire (what a pain in the ass that was) front brake fitted up and bled, (still have to do the rear). drilled out the bung holes in my belly pan (robbed the grommets from my FZR :p ) everything connected and battery charged. oil filter in, plugs, K&N (decided to leave jetting the carb till after this even......just in case it all goes horrifically wrong), rear sets adjusted, just a few more things to do tonight.......its all looking good!

    Frame change (10).JPG

new boots fitted, Pirelli Diablo Rosso II 110/70 & 140/70
