Thought Id do the cam chain tensioner shuffle as its been a recent topic of discussion...... and Im going to pull and strip the carbys soon and Id like to know if the chain needs replacing.

On a Fizzer u pull the top bolt off first so the plunger remains as is when the springs are out.....then u can see how much more is left on the auto adjust when u remove the unit.
When u have it out measure the plunger thats showing then pull it to its max to see if theres anything left.
Mine had another 8mm to go so Im assuming its all ok.

I then pushed it all the way in after making sure there was plenty of free movement in the plunger (assemble it in your hand to replicate it being in the motor) and put it back on ...without the top bolt and springs initially.
After it was back together I removed it all again to check it was doing its job.

Just need to give it a clean (it was well lubricated with engine oil which is obviously a good thing also! ) put it all together again and run the motor.
    And don't forget a new gasket....part no. 5G2-12213-00

    Components all apart ......

Top one is out of the working bike..... bottom one is spare fully extended

    Correct on both accounts! :lolsign:

Previous owners ...... dont u luv um ! .... he was a really nice fella but only young...he even went out of his way to tell me "the carbs have been done" ..... but by whom ? ...... Stevie Wonder

The mechanic who did the rego inspection said it was running on only 3 cylinders.

What would having no needle at all actually do?

The only good thing Ive found so far is the idle screw was exactly 2½ turns on each carb .... but then there was no washer or o ring on any of them .

Cant wait to open up the other side !

You wouldn't be dead for quids!! I can't stop laughing.:D

Aren't you pleased that the carbs are done, there is no accounting for some peoples actions???

Perhaps they were trying for an economy running machine, 3 is enough, 4 is to many?

Mate, can't wait to see what else is going on, please keep me posted. Entertainment value= 10+:thumb_ups:

Heres the missing needle ..... nicely sitting in the spring without the clip :headbang:

The slide housing o ring (pictured) is a little worn  and the main jet ring I had to send in a flea with a jackhammer to get it out..... and ended up with a few black crumbs.

The only time these carbs have been "done" , is by some little Japanese men in a Yamaha factory about 23 years ago.

    :D

One good point, the needle wasn't MIA, simply not attached.

For sure ..... thankfully I have a spare set of carbs in pieces for anything missing or wateva as the next step is to get out the magnifying glass to see if the correct needles are in the right carb as 1 and 4 are different to 2 and 3..... same with the main jets.

Heres an insight into why the centre carbs are set up differently .....
    http://www.fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3353

Heres what someone posted on the interwebs .....

    main jets on 1&4 = 102.5
    main jets on 2&3 = 100
    pilot jets = 37.5
    starter jets = 30
    pilot screw = 2 3/4 turns
    needles 1&4 = 5ct7
    needles 2&3 = 5ct9
    nozzles = n8?
needles on 1&4 have no shim under clip

And heres the factory specs .....

Hi Mr Grey I sent you a message.
Mmmm! Nice 0-rings :( They look nearly as bad as mine did on my 400. I think you will notice somewhat of a difference with some shiny green ones. Does anyone near you have an ultrasonic cleaner?
    cheers
    Blair
