okay, 2 steps forward, 1 step back After giving the Aprilia a quick wash and taking photos I thought I would go for a quick run around the block. I warmed her up and clutch in and selected first gear and she stalled. I played around with the clutch cable and no matter where I set it, it would stall. It dawned on me that she had sat for a few years before I got her, so I drained the trans oil, took the side panel and engine cover off, guess what, all the clutch plates were stuck together. I have measured the fibers and they are in good nick and well within spec, so tomorrow I will clean them up, then collect a new gasket on Monday and then I should be sweet for that elusive test ride
Don't you hate bikes that have "SAT" for awhile, always something unforseen However with the low mileage on the Aprilia your task should be easy to rectify. A good scrub and she'll be ready to go................we hope
Having heard this baby run i can say those pipes sound A1 and the smell is like heaven.. seriously bottle it, take it to track days and sell it as car air freshener.. hahahaha
gave the clutch plates a good clean, now ready for assembly. Managed to pickup a clutch cover gasket on a Sunday morning from BK performance , Bert isn't normally open on a Sunday, but he was in doing paperwork, Score Have laid all the plates on glass and they are all nice and straight
They look great, sure it will go back together easily and work well................mind you that's what we said about the rear brake Fingers crossed, she'll be ready for a ride tomorrow.
If you feel like dropping a heap of coin at any stage these guys do some really nice parts Kiffsta. http://www.thetuningworks.co.uk/ Their clutch baskets are a work of art. The guy who owns the shop said he would do one for the NSR if I sent him some originals over at any point.
cheers Fox, they have some nice kit, did you see they have built an alloy tank for the RS250 ? http://www.thetuningworks.co.uk/store/product_info.php?products_id=1383
Yes I did and very nice they look too! www.beater.jp do an alloy one for the NSR too but I just can't convince myself to drop $1500 on one.
well, its back together, the clutch works, I went around the block and its stuttering like a 90 year old watching SBS on boobs night, might have to pull the carbs down for another look, revs cleanly when sitting but under load there is an issue. Just need some spare time to play
Ha ha I like the analogy. Got to love the two strokes right..... Definitely not the right bike for a daily rider.
Hurraaaay....its going and the clutch works. I might come round at the weekend, it cant be that hard to sort out. I cant wait to see and hear it. Briz......
