If you have any aerostart or start ya bastard, just give it a little sniff through each throttle body and it should get going.

Check your pilot mixture screw adjustments, the critical part is that they are all the same amount of turns out to start with, and not too lean/too rich. Otherwise you get hard starting (lean), stalling or revs rising on their own when you crack the throttle (rich), or a lumpy idle (uneven setting of mixture screws)

    now just to make sure these facts are correct;
    pilot screw 2.5 -+.5
    air mixture screw 2.5 -+.25
    float 13 -+2

other jets are just tight not too tight?
    any other suggestions?

There is no air mixture screw. The other screws are the carp sync screws. There's a couple of how to's by myself in the zxr250 section that may help you.

Do these run twin coil packs mate? strange that you have lost 2 all of a sudden. If renewing the leads it might pay to check the coils...

Which cylinders are not firing? If the bike runs 2 cylinders off 1 coil (so you only have 2 coils), and you have cylinders 1/4 or 2/3 not firing, you have a dud coil. Highly unlikely that 2 leads would fail at the same time.

Check the temperature of your exhaust headers when the bike is running or just after you kill the engine.

I would also pull off the carbs and just check that there is no fuel accumulating in the intake ports. That will foul plugs, make a cylinder run colder, and if really bad could hydrolock the engine and/or bend/break things, like conrods...

Just an update! I got a mechanic friend round to look at the bike.. he was being a big head about the bike saying he could fix it! ended up snapping a spark plug without noticing.. then he bailed... so i now have the thread of a spark plug stuck in the bike, rest of the spark working, starter working but still no start.. kinda think i have narrowed it down to fuel and vacuum.. its gonna be a while till it starts again. =(

the one marked pilot jet should not be adjusted, its just screwed in all the way ( but not too hard). The only adjustment is the one you have marked as the idle mix screw, the manual calls that your pilot screw and it controls your air to fuel mixture , it should be set 2.5 turns out +/- 1/4 of a turn

Make sure each of the pilot jets are clean and you can see through them

the idle screw will vary between bikes, you will have to mess with it abit until you get a perfect idle and to make sure the revs dont hang.

ok so carbs are good! got strong spark, but now i recon it could be timing so I'm gonna have to learn how to do that! really happy with the progress. if you don't ride your bike for a while would timing go out?
    thanks for all your help!

It won't be timing, it doesnt get out like that.
Are your plugs wet or dry when you take them out after an attempted start ?
