    Hey guys ,

So I encountered some carby issues last week , seem to have self diagnosed and repaired myself. Problem is now it wont idle down , checked remote choke cable all the way into the carb , checked idle control and i even took the side cover off the carb and gave the actual throttle and spring a quick clean/squirt. The throttle wont snap back , and even when the chokes off it wont idle down , If I take it for a ride the throttle sticks , revs don't drop on downshift making it very dangerous to ride with the constant jerks etc...

Any ideas , suggestions or anyone had something similar happen?

    Cheers , Dan

There was this thread about a throttle cable issue but sadly he never gave any follow up as to the final outcome.
    http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/megelli-throttle-cable.999/

I wouldnt be riding until your bike is sorted,
First thing I would look for is any kink or damage to the cable ....even if u have to remove it to check its freeplay
Im not familiar with the Megelli but Id assume its much like any bike at the bar end.......so Id be looking inside the throttle control and the twist grip.

At the other end I would pull off the air filter and operate the throttle manually at the carby to see if the butterfly is opening and closing to its full extent...and its smooth.

    Hey mate ,

Yea I read through that before posting , and have been in constant contact with Sinh from motorsport importers. It may be worth replacing the cable , doesn't seem to be anything visually wrong with it but being that its a megelli you can never be sure whats going to fall off , break or fail next.

The twist grip is having issues so ill take that apart today. Carby seems to operate normally I ran it for a while yesterday and wit the exception of the rev hunting & throttle issue it functions as it should, I only took it apart cleaned / re-jet it last weekend!

Ill keep you all posted as reference for other owners.

    Thanks ,Dan !

    Hey dnay
I'm no expert and have never worked on a Megelli but only recently have encountered a similar issue on a Suzuki.
Had the carbs apart and doing the standard clean and inspection. When re assembling I was putting the caps back on when the long spring caught the edge, hence semi blocking the slide from operating fully. I always check the slides when finished, discovered the blockage, removed the cap and found the spring caught half way. Rectified this and problem solved. Might be worth a quick check. Failing that, cable could be your enemy. Good luck.

    Hey mate ,

Yea I guess a carbs a carb aye  lol , yea I found a that the bolt/nut connecting the cable into the slide mechanism was too long and inhibiting full movement I unscrewed both ends giving more thread on the outside of the cap giving more room for it move unrestricted , problem not solved though as still having throttle sticks , I think its safe to say that the throttle cable it bung? And maybe the actual grip too ? slightly deterred on this bike now cost me more to fix than it is to insure !

Yea can be frustrating when theres endless things going wrong.....hopefully there will be nothing left to fix soon!

Undo the switch gear on the throttle side so u can remove the cable and the twist grip.
Check the cable for free play and if its ok ,while u have it off, hang it up and squirt some oil down the inside and let it hang for the oil to flow out the other end....wipe off the excess.

Clean up the bar if its grungy or rusty ,before u put the twist grip back and put plenty of lubricant on the bar, inside the twist grip and where the grip turns inside the switch gear housing.
    Use something like this.....
    http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/on...ase-300g.aspx?pid=135464&menuFrom=60403#Cross

Make sure u adjust the cable correctly so theres slight freeplay at the twist grip before it engages.

Of course have a close look initially for anything broken, bent or damaged......if u find anything then scream loudly, but dont wake the dog.

    Good luck with it

Not sure if this helps but in one of my old posts I mentioned my bike had been knocked over, that fall had bent the handlebar just a hair, I mean so little that visually you really couldn't see the bend but It was enough to bind the twist throttle and the handlebar. Was sticking at about 1/4 throttle, maybe one more thing to check. The return spring on the megelli carb seems to be quite weak, any minor amount of resistance and the throttle will stick. So much to the extent that when I changed my grips I had to leave a gap between the grip and the bar end, just the bit of rubber contacting the bar end made the throttle stick. All things to check out, also make sure the throttle cable routing is correct.

    Cheers

    Hey mate ,

yea pretty much hit the nail on the head with that one! Ordered a new throttle cable , and grips, will use caution when installing . By correct routing you mean no kinks and direct with no bends etc?

    Cheers , Dan

The cable should follow an obvious path......it will obviously curve but shouldnt bend or kink even when the bars are at full lock both ways.
Ive no idea on a Megelli but there could be a special opening in the frame just for the throttle cable .
As mentioned before...plenty of lube and make sure nothing is restricting the twist grip freeplay.

When u come to fit new grips theres 101 secret tips to make it easy ...... I think theres a thread somewhere on the subject :thumb_ups:

    Hey guys ,

decided it wasn't worth investing anymore time or money into this thing , there are problems that are now re-occurring , having disputes with warranty and dealer .Awaiting on one last thing but Ill more than likely sell it as it is for spares if anyone wants it , doubt ill part out if you have a trailer its yours. Have already started a new project.

    Cheers , Dan

maybe a conversation i had helped. megelli is conscious of quality control and aus takes 40% OF PRODUCTION.sinh is the most helpful person you can get.nothing too hard to try and solve and takes matters up with the factory.... very ethical.
