Yep, most of the tachos only start at 3000 rpm. That said, an idle speed of 4000rpm is really quite high! Might want to drop that down a bit. I can't remember what spec is for the FZR250 and thankfully i'll stop myself from referencing FZR1000 specs cos it's probably useless.

PS. I think i remember it being 1500-1600rpm.

i know 4000rpm sounds high but if i turn down the idle it sounds like its gonna stall....it seems fine at 4krpm as if it was at 1krpm on a car...im jus really curious about other fzr250's taking off at 3krpm and such my bikes a 91 3ln

Well, try it out! Turn the idle down to as low as it'll go and see how it runs. Take it for a spin round the block and see if it stalls at all. If it does, wind the idle up a tiny bit, if not... might try to lower it even more!

If it stalls under 3800rpm then theres something quite wrong with the bike. Have you had valve clearances done recently? Have you had the carbs balanced?

Factory specs are 1600rpm idle speed and you should be able to take off like shown in my vid clip.

Are you serious? If I'm dragging someone I'll watch the lights, then just before they turn green, rev to 14k and slip the clutch.
Love doing this since I've done the valve clearances and dropped a tooth off the front sprocket. You hardly have to slip the clutch to maintain revs, and by the time you're on the other side of the intersection the clutch is all the way out and you're soaring towards red-line.
Of course, if you value the life of your chain, sprockets and clutch (which I do - considering ho much of a PITA the clutch is to replace), you wouldn't do this very often.

If I'm in peek hour traffic, and not in the mood to lane split, then I'll just do like in Dave's vid. If the engines in good tune, and the EXUP valve is set properly, then you can take off and cruise comfortably below 5k rpm. I just wouldn't do it for extended periods of time, as it can cause excessive carbon build-up.

Everyday riding I'll take off at ~8k rpm and wind it up to 12k before shifting, and I'll cruise at around 7k rpm

I would take it back to the mechanic and get it running properly. they obviously did not do the job properly if your bike stalls below 4000 rpm.
get some carb specs off this site and take them with your bike to the mechanic.
