I'm worried that my clutch might be shot. For a reasonable take off, what rpm do you guys use and how fast are you with the clutch. I've tried a few times and the bike just wont have it. It stutters and dies in the middle of traffic.

Gotta give it some revs.

Remember the engines a size of a poppa

I usually let the bike start rolling abit with the clutch out , then increase the revs from 2K slwoly up.. ill show you what i mean.. ill record on video once i get my camera back so you can hear and see it.

Depends how fast u wanna take off? If ur dragging someone..I normally clutch in and rev to around 6,000 just before the lights go green...then clutch out till u feel it bites..then I just release...

Make sure the bike is warmed up as well...For instance if im at lights and I just got on the bikes <5 mins, and the choke is not out far enough..I will stall at lights.

Found my problem, my gloves are too thick and makes clutchwork a little difficult. I just went for a spin minus my gloves and there was such a difference. I'll get some new ones soon enough.

i personally think that the fzr have shitty start offs, well mine anyways.
to get it going nicely i usually accelerate around 5000+rpm before i let the clutch out at all and whenever i let ithe clutch out atiny bit, i feed it more throttle.

this method is not good in the rain as you will get wheel spin for afew seconds.

yeah went i first got my fzr i was used to driving in the car and being able to lift the cluth up a bit to get it rolling but the bike would'nt have it. I rev to about 5k and just ride the cluth for no much more than a second. Its ok to ride the clutch on bikes they cant take it. when you did the slow ride to get your L's you would have ridden the cluth at relatively high revs

Only way to go if there are over cars in front. It took me a while but you do need to give it a lot of revs and ride the clutch a fair amount.

Step 1: Tune the FZR so it's running a bit rich
Step 2: Rev the bike at about 14k RPM
Step 3: Lean back
Step 4: Let go of the clutch

Result: Wheelie like a mofo

Alternative is to rev it to 10k RPM, just as you hit like 30kmph chuck the clutch back in, rev higher, then let the clutch out. Wheelie!

Yeah, i done that a while ago except at 16,000rpm in the rain...It got some wheel spin before it went up though, Nice way to wake up on the way to work

Yeh i try to do that a fair bit hehe. I ride on the front lawn to park my bike, i love to roll onto it and then give it a bit and spin the back wheel. also turn the bars and lean, and then give it a bit and it should flick out and straighten up. is good fun.... gravel is fun too!

i can't wheelie anymore stupid mechanic making my bike run lean

I seem to have the same problem taking off. I rev it to around 5k and then let the clutch out, when its released above halfway out the engine goes back to idle. Is it because Iam letting out the clutch too slow or not enough revs? Going to try Dean's method, I think it gives better control to let it rev up slowly.

And is there any way to change the friction point? its a bit too far out to full clutch.

To change the friction point, just adjust your clutch cable thingo. It's like just to the right of your thumb when you're on the clutch lever. It's a circular ridged thing at the end of the cable that runs into the lever.. turn it one way or the other... im forever adjusting mine while im riding...

I get the same sorta thing when starting, only I have to rev to about 8 grand, it's probably cuz I just got my L's and I'm still a newb. But yeah the bike does need alotta revs if I don't give it enough I run the risk of starting travelling about 3 meters and the having the bike conk out and stall, which happens a lot for me haha and I've flattened my Battery in the process.

8,000 is way too high....id put it down to lack of experience to begin with. Taking off isn't the easiest of things...im still getting used to it on the rgv..Im finding it a lot harder to take off quick..u really need to be high up in the revs otherwise it just conks out.

With the fzr though..u really shoudln't need more than 4,000 though. Keep practising!

hrmm not more than 4000?
I'm pretty sure I can't do that, but your right it probably is my inexperience, I'll work on my starts as soon as I get my bike up and running again.

4000? When I was on my bike I found anything below 6000 was virtually unusable - and instead I was always between 6-8000 on takeoffs. I guess it all comes down to preference.

I found revving to 5-6,000 was more sutiable off the lights and if u need to take off quick around 8,000rpm. If ur in a carpark probably between 3-4,000rpm. Also everything changes in the wet such as riding style and the amount of revs at take off. The first time i rode in the wet i stalled my bike 3 times, i havent ever stalled my bike on a sunny day yet.

lol If I tried starting mine with 3000-4000 it would just die and stall. probs cuz it aint running on all cylinders cuz of the dirty spark plugs just haven't had time to fully service the damn bike =\... .**** I need more time on my hands!!!!
