No, Metalgear are made in Australia. I'm only going on what others have experienced with the Chinese disks.. apparently they are crappy and wear out much quicker... and being brakes... you don't wanna skimp.. otherwise a lot of other chinese stuff is fine i've found... just depends

Ok maybe they do make them, but they're both 420SS 2Cr13 that's exactly the same material. Even the chinese can get that right :)

Gee a dumass mechanic? ..... how can that be?

Ask him wat the min thickness a rear disc should be then ask him to measure it with verniers while u watch

And ask him to see the recommendations in writing

Then when he refuses tell him to **** off and go elsewhere

Dunno mate... I'd guess $10 based on the size/weight. Free postage from China though.

LOL that's awesome. I may give them a ring just for kicks and see what possible treatment they could do that constitutes 400% mark up. What a joke!

Being a rear brake it wont get that hard a time compared to the fronts. For the price difference I would give them a go if I needed one.

    bingo Murdo!

i cant tell you the last time i actually used my rear break on either 250. i have braided lines on the rear of the ninja for show. :) The rear brake is something i'll cover off on a larger bike to keep the front end in check on heavy acceleration. So unless it bends in your hands i wouldn't worry about it, especially on a 250........front brakes are a WHOLE different ball game!

anyway @Stu i have a rear shock there, looked at it last night and seems right to me. just pay the postage (and the cost of a 6 pack and its yours mate. I didn't think to pop it on the scales but i'd say she should come in under 5kg so i'm happy to bang it in a satchel for you. i'd suggest to get on the look out for a late model R6 shock to replace it in time, you'll thank me for it in time.

I've also had a look at the rear end of my FZR and i don't get the bump stop remark. im not seen anything that would be classed as a bump stop. however may be worth getting some one with a road going fizzer to check as mine has been a track slut for many a year.

    cheers.

Here dude, feel free to give it a whirl. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Rear...FZR250-TZM150-Motorcycle-Parts/739862959.html

@Moo you rock dude, I sent you a message.

For anyone else, I returned to pick up my bike today. Long story short, a total disaster. These guys are a total waste of space. Name and shame - Allwest motorcycles in Melton (west melbourne).

Not only could they not provide documented evidence as to why they failed the bike (I thought we were being rather civil), but they got defensive and argumentative and spent more time reading between the lines (saying we were accusing them of fraudulent activity etc) rather than simply going through their book and explaining each point of failure one by one.

Things got interesting when their mechanic caught wind of the conversation, and on multiple occasions came out swearing endlessly at us (I was there with a mate with a lot of bike experience for the trickier questions) but he threatened and told us to take our "piece of S$%^" bike and "F#*$" off several times. He even threw several personal insults, and had to be physically pulled back by the (strong) receptionist after I asked him if he would like to step outside to further this discussion (lol).

Just wow. Not only am I gobsmacked that they could not provide adequate reasoning for their logic, but the insults, threats and telling us we were being stupid is just over the line. They are the ones who failed the bike on things like a single missing fairing bolt, shocks that had moisture but were not leaking, and a brake disc apparently out of manufacturers spec (measured it myself it is 4.8mm when service limit is 4.5mm)

Couple of examples of their stupidity:

The bike apparently kept stalling on the test ride. I turned the idle screw slightly and she ran all the way home (20 mins) fine. I'm guessing their large mechanic probably brushed it with his belly as he caught his breath after doing a full circle of the bike.

I asked them why they failed the horn. They said it was "not sufficient". I asked them to define "sufficient" so I could adjust the horn appropriately. They proceeded to beep a number of different horns saying those were sufficient and mine was not. I asked them for a dB rating I could work with. Mechanic said "it's all in the book!" but they couldn't find it because it didn't exist.

That's enough of a rant but boy did the mechanic get his back up when he realized he was dealing with 2 mechanical engineers (one of which has 20 years experience working with bikes). The only credible thing he could give us after that was the fact he knew how to speak english words (although not a lot were coherent).

How do guys like this even stay in business? Who cares though, I'm done. I'll pay to take it elsewhere and have it in good reasonable hands than this mob of clowns. I had worded up Vicroads prior though, they were interested to hear how things went when I returned. May have to play them the audio recording of the (somewhat heated) conversation!!

Yeh, I just wish they had explained everything to me bit by bit. I honestly didn't want to get into some kind of screaming match, just understand what their reasoning was and how it corresponded to the documentation. Not much to ask, if they'd just gone through it with me It would have taken 5 mins.

What cheezed me off is when the guy said I was being stupid about the missing fairing bolt. Surely they were the ones being stupid about it in the first place. Why would you even bother with the argument? I would have just put a new bolt in, worth cents and saved the whole conversation and got an A+ from the customer for looking out for them. Do they think people won't question them why they're being so anal about a single bolt and just let it slide?

    /rant

Seriously, I'm just going to let this go. But I am a bit dumbfounded as to how people actually trust these guys with their machines.

I never cease to be amazed at the stupidity of certain people.
Think it wise to get your bike out of that place ASAP and find another outlet pronto.

Mind filling me in on that one ahead of schedule nextime mate? :p

It's funny actually, my mate said the same thing as soon as he walked into the shop - the vibe he got as soon as we started talking to them.

Oh well, I'm not going to lose sleep over it. I'll report them, all recorded anyway if Vicroads want to pursue it further. Bike's back home, few adjustments to make. Life goes on.

Oh and if anyone else with a 3LN3 can share some photos of the rear shock (particularly inside the spring top and bottom) for any rubber bump stop type thing I'd be much appreciative. Can't find it in any diagram, drawing, photo... not sure what it's supposed to even look like.

If you look carefully, there is a small rubber washer on the cross bracket (sorry a bit hard to see)....

Thanks man that's helpful. I'll cross reference it with mine. Apparently these shocks are "not serviceable" but they can be converted to be "servicable" - not sure what that means - I was told that by a shop that shouldn't exist... *cough*
