does anyone know if anyone makes them?? i know because its a 250 there isnt much performance gain out of it, but im just after a louder note, do u think if i say chased a sports one up at a wrecker for a cbr 250 and adapted it to fit would it make it run like **** or would i get what i want?? or it would make it a whole lot easier if someone had a muffler that they wanted to sell

Sparky, if you want an exhaust for your 3LN, contact a specialist bike muffler fabricator or pipe fabricator. They will build a pipe to suit you bike and tune your bike to suit the new pipe. They say that a well fitted pipe will increase the bikes output by 5-10%. Keep in mind that pipes are manufactured to be bike specific so mixing and matching can decrease performance and waste money. A Honda pipe will be chambered and matched to the performance of the CBR 250, which has a lower Rev limit than the FZR. Additionally, most pipes in wreckers are dented and damaged, further limiting potential performance. Here in Queensland, the people to see would be Pipemaster located in Brisbane, however, Sydney and Melbourne will all have their share of good fabricators.

Be prepared for one biking maxim though, 'performance' and 'budget' do not belong in the same sentence and you will have to fork out a considerable amount of money.

I went to MCA in Sydney and they quoted me $850 for a carbon sports pipe and $675 for a stainless considering what i paid for the bike it seems pointless to spend that sort of money but a bike shop in Campbelltown said they have an overstock of Staintune cans and can adapt one to fit for around $450.

You can always drill holes in the end of the exhaust, to make it louder. Never tried it but i heard its abit louder. I took my exup off cause the wires were stretched and didnt wanna fork out $160 for 2 cables.. thats silverwater wreckers cost for u, though it is abit louder without the exup working.

Dean,

If you want exup cables, give a Queensland wrecker a ring. I was quoted for $35.00 for a pair and they were in excellent condition. The only thing is that they were for the 3LN not the 2KR. Running without the exup will cause the bike to perform poorly as the vavle is designed to open at higher revs (allowing for better gas exchange). By keeping it only partially open, you may cause a gas backlog and cause stalling etc.

I rode mine for the first 3 or 4 months without the exup (fully open). When I re-connected it the difference came at sub 8000 revs - while it was noticable it wasn't significant. On the 250 I don't htink it is as noticable as some of the higher power bikes because the difference it makes is so much smaller.

You have the Queensland wrecker no? I ll buy it if its $35, not much different i dont think with exup off, except the powerband dosent pick up a 8K but more like around 10K.

Im just tight, dont wanna waste $160 on exupc ables **** that **** lol.

On my 1000 the valve starts to open around 6k and there is a noticeable power hit around 8k. Quite exhilarating I might add.

Anyone have any other ideas on where to get a sports muffler? Anyone know of any pipe fabricators in Sydney?

Regards,
Shane

I have heard an a few bikes such as FZR 250, CBR 250 and Suzuki Across with Roo Racing pipes they sound awesome but they are VERY loud which i like but could get annoying on long trips.

And don't forget if you get new exhausts to ask the manufacturer for noise compliance plates (particularly if you are in NSW as they are cracking down on bikes with non-stock exhausts without compliance plates - similar laws are here in Vic, but they have not started cracking down on them... yet).

So does anyone actually know any pipe manufactures in Syd? Cause ive found that a no name custom made pipe will be alot cheaper then say a roo or a factory staintune.

There is no way im paying $600 for a "probably no HP gain muffler on a 250"

Yeah I doubt they are gonna noticibly improve performance on a 250. Its more the sound.

Hey shane,
are you in Brisbane? or Sydney. I had a custom can fitted to my FZR for $300. Brand new Ovan Race can with removable spud (guess what is missing from my can ) Anyway, if you are in Brissy, they are called Motorcycle Exhaust Professionals and they are at Slacks Creek. Ivan is his name. I think you can have the internal baffles "modified" in the original can too, to save on money. Just a thought. Their number is (07) 3808 9377. Here is a pic of mine.

Also, there are some vids of my bike at http://web.aanet.com.au/csls22/OCAU.mc/Videos/ if you are interested to hear it.
Hope this helps,

Chris.

(and yes, they are battle scars on the can. I lowsided 3-4 months ago )
