Decided that a rainy morning in the shed would be a good time to replace those leaking needle and seats on the Yamaha YDS-5. Took off the seat, drained the tank and removed it, airbox out, carbs off and on the bench. Removed the bowls, floats and seats and got out my new ones only to discover that they are too big in the thread. New ones 9mm thread, old ones 7mm. After some choice words were sent through the atmosphere to the suppliers, a cuppa to calm me down and a good think about what to do, I came up with the idea to turn the new seats down in the lathe and rethread them. Unfortunately got called away before getting anything done, but have the plan for tomorrow.
Bikesville...... Brushed away a few cobwebs , bit of cleaning here and there , fixed this and that ... and a couple ridden up the street and back .... while clearing the fridge of beer with @Grasshopper
Got the needle seats machined, threaded, float height adjusted and all fitted back on bike. Old seat on left, machined new seat and new untouched seat on right. Bit of a difference. Although they both have a 2mm hole, the new ones should flow more fuel with the deeper ridges on the needle allowing more space for the fuel.
So got my bracket from tassie yesterday hasn't been snapped and repaired before but hey for under $100 and as long as it bolts up i don't even care still heaps better than my three part contorted excuse for a bracket.
Just wanting a second opinion all up here looks in good order correct doesn't seem full of carbon or anything that's a good sign right? Also there's 12 rubber grommets thats are up by like 1mm is that normal or do they need to be pushed fully down?
So went and checked bike at mechanics seems who ever last did valves put one cam off timing mark by one tooth luck no damage re dynoed made a little improvement and need 4 valves shimmed!!! Also got a 2200w inverter gen from bunnings for 350 bucks bargin
Picked up the replacement right-hand clip-on for Nix from the post office and fitted it. The old one was pretty bent!
Cut the end of the oil pump shaft off. It used to drive the water pump but not any more. The oil pump will be much happier now.
How do you mean? It is for Historic Period 6 250cc Production. I race with PCRA (NSW). We need a Log Book to race in the Historic classes.
Very happy with the fit of the Japanese cross over pipes. First time I have fitted them since I got them from Steve at Old Gold Motorcycles (Thanks Steve). They tuck in nice and close to give very good ground clearance. The left pipe doesn't go as far back:
