Cross your torque wrenches for good luck.
I'm not sure about perseverance, more like stubborn will.

well, could not get her to fire by roll starting. i did get her to fire up for a about 30 seconds by just pressing the starter button, she seemed as is she is flooded and turned off. would not fie again for the next 30 minutes after which i gave up

will give it a go again, this time pushing her down the street..

for now im just happy that there is any sort of response from her.

last time i had the bike sitting there for ages, it took about 2 minutes of continuously pressing the starter button to get it fired up :p Not good for the battery, but it worked.

Just a suggestion - . Turn off the fuel tap, get some-one to tow or push the bike while in 5th gear (or take the bike to a big hill on a trailer) opening the throttle to blow out any petrol build up from the carbs and cylinders.. Take the plugs out (if they are not new, give them a good cleanout). Put a squirt of oil or CRC in each cylinder then put the plugs back in, turn on fuel and try to start.

EDIT: P.S. I always use an upper cylinder lubricant (flashlube) in the petrol, I am sure it helps starting when cold.

    dave,

i've put in the new sparkplugs so they should be fine.

i'll go and get some CRC, can i use WD40 at all?

    thanks for the suggestion

Should be ok - It is just a means of maximising compression when you start the bike.

hey guys, thanks for the info.

didn't get much time to do anything with the bike and looks like i won't be able to for the next few days. i'm hoping to get some time on sunday. will let you guys know how it all goes.

are there any negatives (other then battery usage) to staring the bike and just getting the starter to turn?

again, thanks for all your input

might burn out the starter motor after a while. But my fzzer was off the road for close to 6 months, during which time i started it about 3 times. Each time I had to thumb it for a few minutes to get it to start.

You may need to use a combination of choke, throttle, etc.

Basically the starter motor would be kicking over, but the cyllinders wouldn't fire. Every 15 secs or so one would give a little burst before dieing. Just kept going until that time period decreased.

Of course, if you're flooding it, it's a different story. in that case the engine will be turning over and the cyllinders will be fireing while you hold the start motor down, but as soon as you release the switch it dies. in that case turn the fuel tap off, hold the start motor on, and as the the floats slowly empty the engine will cough into life. When it starts, just turn the fuel tap back on.

    hey all,

    just a quick update

she has awoken from her beauty sleep she decided to fire up after some tinkering from me. she now not only runs but purs very very nicely. i think the change of the plugs did her good.

i took her for a very small ride just to make sure everything is as it should be, ohhhh man the pleasure, the happy thoughts, its all come back to me, the greatnes that riding is (forgive me, its been 3 weeks or so)

anyway im off to take her for a spin, we need to get jiggy with it for a few hours

PS: thanks to all for your input and putting up with all the questions, its great to know that you can always count on great advice from all you guys. and its great ( i think koma said it) that even though some have moved on to bigger (better ?) things you guys are still here providing valuable advice.

    CHEERS

(please dont mind my spelling im just very very excited)

stuck her into 5th and rolled her backwards, this seemed to get the starter going. to get her to fire i hooked her up to mah car and kept at it, after a few minutes turning she sprang to life.
