Problems with my 250r 2010 Megelli

    As it says above I've recently purchased a 250 megilli 2010 model. Can anyone tell me how the check the oil as I can' t seem to find the sight glass nor is there a dipstick on the bung.

    Also just wondering if I change the rear sprocket to a smaller one will it give me more top end speed.

    Increasing /decreasing the number of teeth on the front and/or rear sprocket will increase top speed /lower acceleration and vice versa.

    with the sight glass you needto hold the bike straight and not leaning.. if the glass is dirty you need to take the clutch housing cover off and is a big job requiring engine removal. when oil is drained use teflon tape on thread for a good seal.otherwise oil drips end up in wide area on lower left hand side fairing.10-40 semi synthetic oil and if the bike is hard to start when hot adjust tappets. 6thou inlet and 8 thou exhaust.to get to oil straner the fairing on rhs needs to be removed. filter can be washed in petrol. latest filter is pleated paper?

    forgot to add latest motor has more grunt and different gear ratio,s and gearshift drum.

    also WELCOME TO THE GROUP.a kit was sold that had a smaller front sprocket and was called[ i think]speed kit and cost $300. but may have had 2 sprockets and fitting. .give sinh a ring at motorsport imports and he will give you the lowdown as they also had a racing team. if you take the removable air filter lid off the airbox you pick up 1 and a half horsepower. .need to remove seat and petrol tank , then 6 self tappers.make sure you turn the petrol tap off.where are yoiu located ? if in newcastle happy to help.remember weight of rider also influences speed.top should be around 140 km/h if properly tuned.

    Thanks guys for all your help. It's good to have people to ask questions as all the motor bike shops here don't like the brand megilli and just keep telling me to get rid of it but I haven't had a problem with the bike so far fingers crossed. I think they are a neat little bike,light,easy to ride I only use mine to ride to work and back and it's all 60klms.

    scott, what tyres do you have on? if magsports you wil get mileage but for more feel and grip either pirelli speed demons or i use michelin sport activ.in imprial measurement you should get 73 miles per gallon on 95 or 98. 4.5640 litres to imperial gallon.

    also if battery goes flat use a motobatt and on the new model coming out have a positive and negative wire from battery toa hidden but accessible area to charge battery without taking fuel tank off.

    Thanks risky ill have a look tomorrow I live in qld I've had no dramas starting it yet but I will have a look at the tyres I have on it and let you know one thing that I do need for the bike is a new rear shock I called a megilli dealer in vic the other day and they were very help full I just gotta order as they had none in stock

    What is wrong with the rear shock?
    Im no suspension expert but its only 3 years old ....... unless Charlie Boorman rode the bike across Europe then it might be shagged out.

    It's just really bouncy I've stiffened it up by winding the nut up on the spring but still very bouncy I've takin it to bike shops who have told me that the rear shock is buggered but in saying that the bike made it through road worthy even after I asked them about it. And they said it was fine so I'm not sure one person says one thing then other says something differant. I'm no machinic so I ask people.also I've searched all over the bike and I can't seem to see the sight glass for the oil anywhere. So I'm a bit lost at the moment.

    So the bike shop has contradicted itself on that one .... so lets forget them

    Getting suspension right can get very complicated but on a simple smaller bike theres not alot of "setup" to do.
    Also make sure your tyre pressures are correct.

    What u are doing is changing the pre-load on the shock but it requires more than just "winding the nut"

    Theres a ton of info online about setting suspension and pre load ....but here a fairly simple explanation ....

    re shock contact sinh at motorsport imports who bring the bikes in and the spares that the dealers obtain.[02 87851400]phone and say john from newcastle recommended you speak to him. i doubt the shock is stuffed.

    is your bike air cooled or liquid cooled with radiator.the pictures are for the liquid cooled. air cooled zongshen motors have the sight glass at the lower front of the clutch housing and if your bike has fairings the lower front right would need to be removed. if you put a watch in front of clutch housing look between 4 and 5 on dial.

    that is the 125 motor but YES. the 250 is a little different.

    It's air cooled and I has fairings so I may have to take the bottom right hand one off thanks guys again you have all been such a great help.

    no problem, i had to walk out back door and check the maxim which has the same motor but has twin disc front brakes.the air cooled motors have less power than the radiator ones but the same frame so if you buy a write off you can swap the parts over. these bikes do have a few idiosyncrecies and rear suspension handling is one of them. changed tyres help. also tyre pressure.lets say i now do more than 50k in the wet.
