I picked this old girl up on Gumtree, the PO says it had low compression so he bought Chinese pistons and rings off eBay, 2 of the 4 now have compression, but the outer 2 pots are low. Should be a project, I do have a spare MC22 engine here, albeit a tad tired, might look for another one Cheers Chris
Haha good work kiffsta! Can never have enough cbr's, ive lined up a 89 cbr250r for pickup next weekend. Lol @ chinese pistons n rings
Looks like there is an attachment issue here, will post pics once I work out what's wrong. If you need any parts, let me know, I have 1 1/2 MC19s in the garage
hey Guys, Im going to do an engine swap tomorrow afternoon if anyone is interested in helping out. I have to take my son to cricket in the morning but will be home by 12:30
If I left immediately to join you, I'd still be late. Long way from Texas. Good luck with your project, Kiffsta, and enjoy yourselves! Regards~ Scott
the mrs thought it would be a good day to go out and have fun at a hens night, so i am stuck at home with the kids. no way of me being able to make it over, would have been there with bells on if not
All good @U_B_WARE , actually 2 of us cracked on and the new engine is in. Bike thanks to @Tim_ for his help. Basically, the old motor was still in the frame so it came out easily, once out, we degreased it ready to be installed. The starter motor was fitted as I had previously sold the one from the donor motor, because the donor engine had a dodgy wire repair job on the pickups, we decided the swap them out as well. Tim did notice the water pump cover has plenty of corrosion, so he swapped that out as well. I did do the rookie mistake and put plug lead 1 to pot 2 and vice versa, the back firing was a dead give away. Once she ran for a bit, Tim noticed the side cover where the pickups are were leaking, so he took it back off and spent time cleaning the old gasket away as I had a new one in a kit I bought a few years back. I also took the time to swap out the windscreen as I hated the yellow one, I also removed the rear pegs in anticipation of buying a single seat cowl for cheaper rego. Took it for a test ride and mentioned to tim that it wouldn't rev past 8000rpm, Tim did say the fuel tap was turned off, once I turned it to on, it rode quite well, no strange nuances. At any rate, we started at 1pm, the new engine was running by 3pm and the clean up tasks took a bit longer, safe to stay Im stoked. I think I can get it down to my mechanic for a RWC this week and hopefully get rego done on Friday. Super big thanks to @Tim for all his help a few pics of the engine swap
Mate was my pleasure... was a good day, well apart from that #(*$(*@^$@&^$(@*^($(*@^&(*$ gasket lol.... and to hear how smooth the engine was i was cheering when i heard her rev past 8..... b
I bought a new battery for her at lunch and just pulled her outside for a quick wash, quite pleased with the result. I have ordered some new brake disks from @Xcitebikes as these ones are borderline and Im sure they wont pass, I also ordered a single seat cowl from XCite, Im hoping to have it on the road this Friday so I have splurged on a pair of Pirelli Diablo's and booked her in on Friday for a Road Worthy certificate Chris
with the pillion pegs removed, all I had to do was replace the seat with a seat cowl, a big thanks to @XCite Bikes for getting me one so quickly. Half price rego here I come
