Honda CBR250rr MC22 Project (take 2)

Sorry fellas, got the wrong pictures up. As I was saying, the chap who delivered the bike has a welding shop and does work on bikes....think these pipes have been worked on at some stage!! Very solid units.

 

A big thanks to @Brizfox and @kiffsta for getting some parts to me so promptly
I went down to the Kawasaki dealership in Maroochydore this morning to see if they could fit my tire onto my newly painted rim.
Fitted and balanced=$25.00, whilst there was able to indulge in some serious eye candy....no, not the girl behind the counter but a show room full of shiny new bikes, oh but to have bucket loads of money
Headed home with my wheel ready to go back on the bike pulled into my garage and the postie was behind me.....parcel in hand, just like Christmas.
Oil filter fitted....thanks @Grasshopper with new bolt, front wheel fitted and bike is back on 2 wheels once again, so far this has been one....very good day

MC22 UPDATE
Ok yesterday was pretty good, got some goodies in the form of a clutch cable and the bit that holds the oil filter in the engine from Brizfox. Late last night I got the clutch cable in (is that not a pain in the rectum)and adjusted it up and it's operational
Next I fitted the oil filter and tighten everything up......something didn't seem right???? Jumped online to find that I had fitted it wrong, thank god I hadn't put the new oil in Ok, it's now in the correct order.
This morning filled her with 2.4l of oil and hooked the battery off the Bandit and for the first time since she arrived she fired up.
Ran poorly but.............it ran Trial and error with the carbs at this stage but it is improving dramatically. Flat battery so time out whilst recharging.......Got her running under throttle and no noises that shouldn't be there....starting to feel as if this project may have a life after all.
Still got much to do, but hey...........I'm happy

 

Thanks Grey, it came out well..........now for the rear one. The fellow who fitted the tire for me said to bring the rear one down, he'll get it off for me, once I've finished painting it he'll fit and balance.........not a bad deal

 

Today I finished prepping the callipers for paint, sure could have used a small sand blaster as there so many difficult area's to access. But hey, you make do with what you got.



Then I gave it all several coats and they look so much better

 

Was trying to figure out why the engine was hunting when I started it up the other day. Carbs have been off several times and have seen some improvement, however the hunting has persisted ???
This afternoon contemplating pulling the carbs once again, noticed the plastic contour was cracked....wtf is going on. upon closer inspection discovered that the crack length was nearly 2 carbs long.
Contacted my supplier of parts in Brisbane aka @kiffsta and he assured me he had a spare. I can understand now why the air intake was so great. Chris's guess is that the PO tried to pull the carbs off with the air box still attached....certainly possible.
Will be curious to see what difference this makes when new one is fitted...... might just get a big surprise.

 

MC22 UPDATE
Last Thursday...5pm....knock at the door.........delivery of parts.....sign here please....thank you...and suddenly it's all here
Back out to my office... sorry garage and rip this bag open, lets see what I got.
1 battery 1 shiny new can including bracket 3 sets of brake pads 1 set of grips+ bar ends and a parcel for Chris, should be able to move forward with this lot.
Gasket for clutch cover arrives Friday, very happy to have this as the previous one was miles too large and had to be cut to fit and yes....you guessed it..........leaked
Drained the oil, fitted the new gasket, aren't genuine parts nice.....they fit. Oil back in and "NO BLOODY LEAKS"
Next I decided to fit new rear brake pads.....well thought I would until I tried to press the piston in to accommodate the new pads. No amount of pressure was going to move that piston....so I started pressing the brake pedal until the piston emerged and the rust had damaged the piston so deeply it was useless. Did try to remove the rust but to far gone.....so the pads went back in the box until the new piston and seals arrive.
Removed the rear wheel as I wish to paint it as I did the front.
My wife returned from Brisbane with a stand for the bike and the shroud for the carbs which has been fitted already.
Making progress slowly, at least with a new battery installed life has become easier.

 

MC22 (brief) UPDATE.

Up early this morning, by 7am had the carbs off and ready to dismantle........again!!
Armed with new needles, my main aim was to double check the main jets to see if they were standard.
Cylinder 1 and 4= 105.......2 and 3= 102 and fit the new needles.
First 2 carbs are fine, no 3 had the wrong jet as did no 4. Quick swap around....new needles fitted and air/fuel mixture re-adjusted
and time to refit, 9.45am mission accomplished......hit the starter and she fired up nicely.
Hope the rest of the day goes as well.

 

MC22 2nd update today
Spoke to soon this am......the day had gone well right up to the moment I decided to clean the rear brake reservoir. Look a little tarnished so removed and passed a rag over and it started disintegrating in my hand??? WTF just happened ??
Well it appears that after being exposed to the elements for 25 years...........time to fall apart.
Somehow think uv could be the culprit, the inner side looks brand new..........oh well s... happens.
On a brighter note, got the rear tire removed by the local Kawasaki dealer...in and out in under 5minutes.
Some serious elbow grease to get the rim cleaned up in preparation for paint....got 2 coats on and looks good.
And so ends another eventful day.

 

Cap is fine.....just the rest is crap.

 

MC22 UPDATE
Well this morning I took my newly painted rear wheel and tire down to Team Moto to get it fitted. You'll recall that I had been there Monday to have the tire removed. Brad was impressed with my work.....had one of his fellows fit the tire, balance it and replaced the valve.......took about 15 minutes. Invoice was $20.00 all up.........I was well pleased.




Next it was time to fit the wheel back on the bike.....Pretty straight forward.


Took the bike outside and finished cleaning the chain........dirty and greasy!!



Whilst I had the Gerni hooked up gave the bike a quick clean and left out the front to dry


Just for fun I threw panels on to see how it will look, I've not seen it assembled as it arrived in bits,
