    Hiya I’m Baza,
Found this place while looking for info on a bike I jus got,,,,
While at an Old Biker friends house he tells me he’s got a few bikes he wants rid of cheap coz he’s to old +70 to mess with em. Anyway cut a long story short I bought 4 bikes off him for a grand ( what a deal ).
After sellin 2 of em I ended up with a 2005 cbr 125 needing head gasket,,,,,,
And this beauty owing me nothin at all :)
GSXR 250s Cobra 1989 30,000 km jus needs a generator casing & putting back together. Looks a clean tidy bike. Been stored under that bench near 6 year But with regular maintainance that why it stripped.
My old m8 even wants to come down to start it for me and make sure it’s all good when I’ve put it back together, That how confident he is it runs fine what a guy :)

From what info I find they are quite rare in uk an theres not much info about them.
Anyway if anyone has any knowledge or info they could share before I start to fix it up in a week or to I’d be happy to here.
I'm quite new to road bikes so my knowledge is very minimum
    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum
That Cobra look's to be in pretty nice condition.
I'm guessing carby's will need to come off if they weren't drained properly before storing it, check the filter in the tank and the fuel filter too

Loverly looking bike..and mechanically (carbs and engine) the same as the gj73a gsxr 250rrk..i'll have a cover somewhere and possibly a stator but the magnets off the flywheel which look to be missing are impossible to find as they had issues when new with the glue that holds them on coming unstuck..creates a bit of a mess if the bike is running at the time lol! The flywheel is not shared with either the across or bandit and i've been unable to source one (yahoo JPN/Megazip/cmnsl etc) after 2 years of digging. Part number you need is 31402-06COO for the flywheel, 11351 -06COO for the easier to find cover and 31401 -06COO for the stator. The closest you will find for the flywheel is that of the GF250FW which can be machined to fit..try send a message to this guy as he had one of the last ones and he's listed on here 'Moff', I've bought a bike off him before and he'll know what your after. If your really stuck you can go bespoke as I had to but it costs much $£$£$£...good luck and keep us posted :)

    Cheers for help guys,,,
Well I noticed the flywheel weights look to be missing I’ll post some close up pics soon, I have the stator and have found a side case in new Zealand original one, or a copy one here
    https://www.motorcyclepartswarehous...93-bandit-replacement-starter-gear-cover.html
I’m told that fits and it looks identical.
Thanks again for your help and info it looks like I’m gonna need it.
And what kinda price was a bespoke one If I had to go that way?
Ive no idea what the bikes worth but once I sold the cbr I’m fixing up it should stand me at pretty much nothing so I dont mind putting money in to it she looks Awsome can’t wait to hear it purrrr!,,

I dont actually know of that seller so cant comment but you can source one in the uk used for about the same..the cover and stator are easy enough to get hold of..its likely the flywheel will be the problem, at least that's been my experience..and almost certainly why the bike was laid up. I've got one made and lightened..we had a thread on here at some point when I hit problems but I'm not sure where the thread is..cost was prohibitive as I can remember having rows with the misses lol and she usually turns a blind eye!! All in with the milling around £600 plus the balancing and a few favours and parts swops..you get the idea..better to pick up an engine complete for half the price if you can find one with the parts needed in situ..

@Simon Did you write a thread about this problem and how you fixed it? If not it would be very helpful for owners and the big cheese could sticky it.

Hi buddy, I'm not sure if I hijacked another thread or created one but deffo remember posting on the issues with the flywheel I had losing magnets..was tearing my hair out as I couldnt find one anywhere (worldwide) and then looked for a make-do (gs500 modified to fit but it ran the crank shells in under 1000miles..twice..its a long story)..ended up looking at getting my old one rebuilt but eventually it was easier to get one made to fit and then balanced..I took the opportunity to get it lightened at the same time in the quest for better throttle response and its worked out slightly better but no improvement to hp overall..happened on the older gf250fw one after i'd already shelled out the £$!! I'll see what pics I can muster and see if a thread is doable if it is of any benefit then i'll give it a go!!

I wouldnt give up m8 there's always a way, thats half the enjoyment with these 'vintage' bikes! I'd start by looking for a 250fw one as that will be by far the cheapest option to modify..used they go for around £60 and do come up occasionaly over here..it also doesnt self implode like a grenade going off! Since you have the old flywheel minus the magnets..thats the option i'd go for on a budget:)

    Thanks again m8,
Few more pics with tank/seats off,
Also found a flywheel what looks similar,,, would this fit?
Will an across flywheel be of any help for magnets?
Don’t really know how or what you would mod on it.
I’m absolutely clueless about Flywheels so I really appreciate your help.
I’ve got to consider overall costs as well being a single parent but like I’ve said before the bike owes me nothing really so over a bit of time I don’t mind spending on it,,,,if it runs it will live with me many years :)
    If not it’s goin haha
I’ve messaged Moff on here but he seems to be inactive I think he sold all his 250s

Bike looks in great condition - bit of a clean up and it will look mint! I hear what your saying about the costs as there not worth that much all up and running with an MOT and fully sorted around £1500-£1800 in the uk(about $3K AUS) - but they are ever so rare - ive only seen three cobra's in ten plus years, needs to be back on the road!!! The flywheel you posted a picture of is different and wont fit directly..though I dare say can be made to fit using your old flywheel - cut the new one's centre nut off and weld the existing centre nut on..you'll need a good machine shop to do it though - the first one I used messed it up and I had bottom end problems as a result..go with whom you know as if its not done right vibration becomes a big issue and it'll wreak havoc on the bearing shells..other option is have the crank modified to take that flywheel..but that will be a crank out job I dare say..last option which I looked into was suggested by maelstrom a few years back which was to go with a crank mounted rotor but your looking around the £700 mark..it will be a permanent fix though :). It will also give you the option of a hugely lightened flywheel so if there are no hills nearby give it a go!!! I've had mixed results with lightening the gf250 flywheel as I picked up two from DK imports but stopped when I couldnt source anymore..will try and find maelstrom's link for you as there may be cheaper options available now..

So there’s options then that’s good,,,,,
As it is it owes me nothin it is profit from sellin other bikes out of job lot I bought ,it started as a little earner to help out with Xmas for my Sons but once I set eyes on her in my livin room I fell in love thinkin it would be Quick , cheap and easy fix also with being quite a rare machine ,,,,,until you told me about magnets missing and how hard they are to get,,,,. I’ve had serious doubts on if to get involved due to funds etc.
Anyway I’m still in love it’s goin no where I really want to fix it, with help & knowledge from you guys if ya don’t mind.
I’ll start a new thread soon so it’s all in one place ,,I don’t know how long it will take To get her back on the road but hopefully should be able to do it for less than the price of buyin one running.
Simon if you come across any parts Or info that will help me out on your travels please let me know,,,thanks :)
    Project Cobra on its way!!
