    image.jpeg image.jpeg 'Sup everyone?

I'm Matt. I currently ride an '00 Monster 750, wrench on whatever I can and just paid for a ZXR-250 to get thrown on a boat to Seattle for me to rev-bomb unsuspecting Priuses with. I started riding on a 2005 ex250 that I loved, and told myself one day I'd drop a ZXR mill in one. By the time the opportunity came, it was easier to just import a whole bike. Go figure!

Of course I'm left with a bunch of questions, that between this forum and a tenner to download some manuals I'm hoping to answer over the next few weeks... So yeah, good times coming, but for now boring questions and lots of searching!

I do have one question first off... Anyone else on here happen to know if there's any other masochists like me who decided they just had to have a ridiculously uncommon bike with no parts supply in the States on the forum here?

Thanks! Pics incoming once I get back to my phone! (Edit- wow, I can't put them at the bottom on mobile! Sorry for pics in your face!)

    -Matt

    :welcome:

That zorst on the monster looks like a serious piece of kit!

Your ZXR looks in very good nick. Hopefully you won't need many parts for it! Best advice I can give with these old inline 4 250's is to check/set the valve clearances and do the timing chain. It makes a world of difference when the valve timing is spot on. Kawasaki's are known to have the tensioners die, I believe you can use a GPX/Ninja 250 one but don't quote me on it.

Every I4 250 here in Aus is a grey import, save for the CBR250RR up to 1999 (MC22 R L), but heaps of them were imported, so parts are not a big issue for the Hondas, and the Kwakas are also popular. You are a real masochist if you want an FZR or GSXR, the rarest of the bunch.

Whichever one you have, once properly sorted they are a good bit of fun.

    Hey Matt

Welcome aboard, I am going to have to say that is probably to cleanest original ZXR250 I have ever seen.

Its going to be super rare in the US, but in all honesty parts are not that hard to come by, your just going to have to pay heaps for postage. A ZXR engine in a ex250 would be a waste, wait until you ride the ZXR, its like comparing the Prius to a Mustang... No competition.

As for the tenner to access the manuals, its more like about $6 USD based on the conversion rate, what it does do is allow resources like this to exist so any help is greatly appreciated. If you donate and get access, there are some parts fischs with parts numbers, our good mates at Kawasaki used the same part in many of their bikes so your local dealer will be able to source plenty for you, just quote the part number, don't tell them its a ZXR. Another place to look are Japanese auction sites like Jauce.com , I have been buying a few bits from Japan that way.

We have quite a few members on here from the US and Canada

    Take it easy

    Kiff

Thanks for the welcome! Yeah, I love the exhaust. It's astounding what a couple friends a six pack and a tig welder can do on the weekend. I did everything on that bike, paint, body, etc... But the exhaust was all my friend's work. Sounds as fun as it looks!

My original plan was to fly to Australia and make a vacation of finding and shipping one, but when I found a dude who said he could just put one on a boat for me, I got lazy. :) Supposedly it just had a tensioner done- we will see when it gets here!

Sounds good! Once I saw you had the parts fiches, I was sold. I have no problem supporting a community and a resource, especially with how scarce information is elsewhere on these. Those fiches are about to be my new best friend. I bet a third of the parts are already here- just not assigned to this bike in the US systems. I live about a mile from my local Kawasaki dealer- they seem about as excited to see it as I am and willing to help.

Here's hoping the bike is as nice as the pictures show once it gets here... ;) I'm excited. Why can't boats row quicker already?

    Matt.....Welcome to the forum

Fine choice in motorcycles.......kinda look twice at a Ducati that is not "red"
You've done a great job on it and like the others the pipe looks killer!
As for the zxr250, looks awesome :thumb_ups: Look forward to hearing your impressions once the bike arrives, they are a great motorcycle.

Had the pleasure of visiting Seattle a few years back and enjoyed the city a lot.

Tell me more about this importation neighbor! I have a CBR250RR sitting in my garage. If you find yourself placing an order from CMSNL soon, let me know. It's like $40 minimum shipping, and there are $20 worth of parts I would like. Toss my order in with yours, reship to me... What I need weighs ounces and the largest piece is maybe 12"x2"x1/2"

I'd never heard of CMSNL before! I'll definitely holler when the time comes. I'll talk to my guy when the bike gets here- not sure if he has interest in doing titling as a thing if he isn't making money on the bike too... What year is the baby blade?

It's a 96. I kicked around the idea of bolting on other year bits to get to 45hp, but the more I think about it the less I want to do it. I have yet to de-restrict the speed as I very rarely need that extra little bit out of the top end.

I'd be up for a Seahawks game or a visit to Pacific Raceways when the NHRA is in town later in the year.

Quite a few of us are big fans of historic racing and old school iron. When you get a moment, search this site for historic meetings and you'll see what I mean. A few of us joke that the NHRA stands for Not Happy Racers Association. We can't really talk as a splinter group has formed here in Australia (backed by the IHRA) to offer an option for racers who aren't happy with our long-running governing body (ANDRA). I'm at one of the IHRA (400 Thunder) events right now.

It finalllllly got here! I picked it up last night, finally got it running tonight... And broke down a mile down the road. Go figure. But it's here, it's wicked, it makes NO power and it mysteriously has a different fuel tank than the photos showed, with less dents! Yaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy!

Turned out the fuel filter looked fine. I could blow thru it, whatever... But the bike couldn't suck fuel thru. Then I pinched the vent line putting it together. Shenanigans, I tell you! Anyhow, figured I'd update everyone and now I'm sure my questions will come non-stop. Did a video walk around, I have a voice made for writing but hey- YouTube. Who cares!

Couple pics attached, my 250 next to a local 400 which has as little business being here as mine does- and everything that showed up last night- what I dubbed "motorcycle Disneyland for Christmas in August" in the moment lol.

Too cool, I'm digging the entire mile I put on it so far!

ZXR's are picky with their vacuum lines but that will show up as a stutter or wall in the rev range... Mr. Green can supply you with a carby kit here

All of the inline 4 250's seem to run best on 91 octane, what you guys call 87 octane over there. No ethanol fuel until you replace every rubber piece in the carbs with the litetek stuff.

Look forward to seeing it run :)
