Hello!

I thought i'd introduce myself. I bought FZR250 3 weeks ago. Judging from the model number I have an 3LN1 model. The plate says 1990 complianced in 1996. Lucky for me, one of the previous owners has made a considerable effort making the bike look like a 1996 model FZR250 complete with full paint job

The bike is in pretty good condition considering the price I paid for it. But there are a few small things that need fixing before it is due to be re-registered. Hopefully I will find all the information on here without having to bug you guys too much

This is my first road bike so I am slowly building up experience and confidence. I have a fairly strong dirt biking history which has been very helpful.

    Happy riding!
    Shero

Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the site. Though I wonder if a 96 model was manufactured in FZR 250s, as you said it looks like a 96 model..

How does it feel shifting from a dirt bike to a sport bike? Now lets see som epics of it..

robustus0007, don't hold me to it, but I think 94 was the last manufactur date for the 250. Compliance date is when it was registered/titled/imported, I think. I'm not from there so I don't know 100%.

Going on the low number of '94 model 3LN7's built I would have to say that they were discontinued in '94 or '95 at the latest.

There may be some hint of the year/date of manufacture in the original neck stampings.

Yes my apology. That was a typo, I was pretty tired when I wrote the intro message.

The bike has been made to look like the 1994 (3LN7) model. Everything except for the front fairing has been changed. And there are aftermarket blinkers on the bike as well.

I will try and put a pic below, don't know if it will work...

If the pic turns out tell me what you think of the bike. I paid AU$1,700. for it. I am very happy with the purchase. Rego till feb next year, starts first go everytime, haven't found any major issues, only small cuts and scratches.

Cheers for the tip Dave. I just realised who you are... I found your FZR info page extremely useful. Thank you for taking the time and effort to put that together, I am sure it has helped a bunch of people learn more about the FZR250.

    Merry Christmas Dave!

Thank Shero, and I see you got the picture working now. Looks pretty good, just a pity there weren't a few more late model FZR's around.

Likewise, I hope Santa fills your sock with bike goodies like he has done for me.

Hey HptK, yeah i'm living in wodonga at the moment. What are you riding?

Dave, unwrapped my presents today... not a lot of bike stuff unfortunately. I was hoping for a tinted visor for my helmet or if i was really lucky at jacket of some sort. I did get given an little emergency bike tool kit though which might come in handy.

Hey FZR Dude, i'm not sure about the '94 YZF750' colour scheme but the bike is almost a complete replica of the 'FZR250R (3LN7) 1994' that dave has on his page... http://www.my-x15.net/FZR_INFO.html

    Merry Christmas guys.

Hey Shero, I have the same colour scheme but all model markings indicate that it's a 3LN3.

Lot of problems with mine right now though:

    Valve Clearances
    Slipping Clutch
    Jumps out of 2nd
    3 X oil leak
    3 x fuel leak
Carbies need adjusting again (****** with them forever before checking clearances)

G'day HptK, the bike looks like it's in really great condition, you should be proud

You say that your bike is tuned to perfection? Did you do that yourself or did you find someone that tunes FZR's locally? I think my bike could benefit from a tune... I have been told that Rick Heffernan Racing in Wodonga is the only guy that will touch FZR's (grey imports), but he said that he is booked out for a few months.

And it would be great to go for a ride some time, but I think I might build up some more experience first. I would probably slow you down at the moment. I've got a fair bit to learn about how the bike handles cornering at higher speeds

Hey FZR250Guy, sorry to hear your having problems with your bike. I feel so lucky that I picked up a bike in really good condition, but then again i spent 6 months looking for the right bike.

The only real problems that I have are some stuff that is needed for rego in feburary next year. The key comes out of the ignition when the bike is switched on, so I will have to either have the lock repaired or get a new ignition??? I may also have to get the odometer fixed for rego. But that is pretty much it. The bike runs really well, no leaks

If anyone has any suggestions about the ignition I would be grateful... I'm yet to do any searching on the topic, there's probably something in the fourms.

Mine was in pretty much perfect condition too when I got it, that all changed one month down the track.

As for the ignition, my original Yamaha key can be taken out while the copy won't budge.

What makes you think it needs a tune, elaborate and maybe I can help.

I had mine done at top tune in lavington. they know their stuff and they dont charge heaps like the other guys. they are the kind of people who are not just doing it to make a profit. PM me for their number if you wish.

I have only been riding for 3 months. I dont think i will be that quick compared to you (yet ;-)). Me and Dad go riding a bit. would be good to have someone else to ride with. Besides, Dad has been riding for years, and may give you some good advice (as well as what i can offer)

I have recently had the bike done at border dyno tune (near the caltex on pearce street r'bout) $45 and he checked brakes ,lights, signals, checked for rust, tryes etc. i dont think he would be checking ignition or worry about odometer. he didnt even ride it. it was just pull in, have a look, ride out. And for GODSAKE do not go near wodonga KTM on high st for a RWC. they are bloody Nazis over there.

    Hope I have helped.
    PS. Call me Hayden.

Hey Hptk, I remember you mentioning your bike needed the valve clearances done.

Out of curiosity, what's your mechanics going rate for this.

    Thanks mate.

??? What happened one month down the track? I hope you're not implying that my bike may **** itself in a few weeks time...

As for the ignition, i had thought about getting a new key cut because i know that can make a difference. All the ridges have become a bit blunt on my key.

Well i'm not to sure if the bike actually needs a tune, some of my other friends have suggested that it could do with a tune. I think probably because sometimes the bike is slow to respond to the throttle??? Either way it would probably be beneficial to have an experienced bike mechanic have a look over the bike.
