As Risky said...done in drag racing mostly...and ONLY on the up change. I always use the clutch for down changing. The difference is minimal when clutch-less changing, but on a drag strip you'd sell your mother for an extra tenth or two, so every little bit counts! Real drag bikes have an airshifter which eliminates clutch changes altogether...you hold the throttle fully open and press the button to get the next gear. You only use the clutch to launch and when the run's over. Be interesting to know if the Tiger racing guys use their clutches on the upshift?
Damus, Take your bike to a drag strip and see what she runs. The 2fiftycc unofficial record for a 250cc 4cyl is 14.078 seconds at 153kph.
I never use the clutch on my dirt bike an I'm much harder on it than my poor little Cibby, and my CR125 never has had any signs of wear. Conversely, the transmission on engine #1 and engine #2 of the CBR were perfect. With that said, I only did clutchless upshifts from 2nd gear up, and only when I was had my 'Marquez' on. And never on the downshifts. Also, aren't the tachs on the older CBRs pretty inaccurate? I agree not to rev the guts out (there's those RacingSM guys on Youtube who wring out this poor MC22 on every gear, so bad) but the engine is limited to 19 or 19.5k isn't it?
The ZXR250 is limited to 20,000rpm, but sometimes the rev limiter kicks in a little bit earlier. I try not to think about whats going on inside my engine at those revolutions.
I try to sit at 14/15 and slip it on race start check my vids when I get it right I can jump a position or 2!! Also I find changing into 2nd I use clutch on up as it easy to find false neutral keep in mind I'm not worried about the fuzz on a race start lol
Also I installed the light shift either it's off which from what I read it isn't the stock tacho is slower response I try to keep bike between 12 absolutely min and 18 top for best power Also on suspension if u have stock in any model and the prob still the ones from new they be shagged so comparing front end is like comparing which 70yr is well u know haha get some new gear in it lol
Don't get my wrong I'm not into dragging and I should be on the track on the 30th. But when you have some dude that thinks he is gods gift to bikes who goes out and spends 12k in an attempt to get the fastest lams bike possible and then rag's on every bike that isnt an mt-07 e.g. my old across, let me tell you winning a 0-100 with a 3.7k bike that isnt an mt-07 proves that he needs to eat some humble fkn pie =p.
Damus if you like the cbr, you should try it's big bro the mc21 Faster, lighter, better suspended, better brakes, etc etc Could take the restriction out of the mt-07 and still wouldn't hang on
Speaking of MT-07 restrictions, compared to the model the rest of the world gets, the Aussie MT-07 has smaller bores. It could potentially be bored out to the standard overseas size with new standard overseas pistons. Remove the throttle stop if it has one, and get an overseas ECU, you'd be laughing. I had a chat to a bloke in Sydney standing near his new red and black MT-07. I asked him about it, he said it was great, and he just lost his license on it!
Well rider weight aside, physics are on your side a bit with this one. You've got a ~33kW bike that weighs ~157kg wet - 4.75 kW/kg He's got a ~55kW bike that weighs ~179kg wet - 3.25 kW/kg Depending on how well the bike puts the power to the wheel (torque, rider skill etc) that explains at least some of why you're able to compete in a straight line. But I think I quite like the nakeds too so....
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. These to me are good looking naked bikes. and They don't have superfluous bits of plastic stuck on them They don't have a clump of add-on aluminium on the frame to make it look like the Bat-Bike They don't have a tail light does that hangs off the end of a stick They don't have a headlight that looks like an old man's saggy bum The underside of the seat won't look like a garbage dump if you ride on a wet road because they have what we call a mudguard also known as a fender in North America. and they don't have wavy discs A MotoGP bike has more rear guard than a Yamaha road bike. Why? Because on a MotoGP bike form follows function. On an MT-07 form follows fashion.
