So here's a problem that is puzzling me, even though I consider myself relatively computer literate. Outlook has for some reason stopped receiving all my gmail emails. It does receive some of them, the thing is, nothing's been changed. I never open gmail on the web interface... ever. And I don't mess with any outlook settings. Yes I have multiple mobile devices all hooked into gmail but it's been running like that for ages with no problems like this. I've scowered the web and tried all these different ways of approaching it from trying to change my profile to recent:xyz@gmail.com I've deleted and readded my profile, repaired outlook, messed with IMAP settings... nothing has changed. It's really annoying because I've been using outlook (2007) for years and have had 0 issues. Any ideas? I'm about to fire up thunderbird for the first time in a long time because I don't know what is going on. All my gmail settings are unchanged (I think, I checked them all again just to be sure). Help appreciated.
I am guessing your talking about a problem with your PC, not a tablet or phone? You've covered most of what i would have done (other than clearing the cache but I'd be surprised if that fixed it) so I'm wondering if the fault lies with something else. Have you installed new software recently? Have you had an update to your AV that might have caused it? Have you tried (if you can) using Outlook on a different PC?
Nah no error messages. It's really strange. I can send myself an email from outlook and it appears in both. I send myself an email from gmail and it appears in both. I forward myself an email from gmail to myself and it comes up in both. But just now when you guys replied to this I got a forum notification on my gmail but not outlook. WTF? I haven't changed any software or anything, no I don't have outlook on other devices I use droid so it's just the "gmail" android app on those three devices. Before it used to come to all three devices and outlook and it didn't matter which one you read it still appeared in all. It still appears in all except outlook. driving me bonkers. Yes I reckon the problem is outlook. But I can't figure out what.
Nah, they're just not coming through. I'm still receiving emails on gmail but outlook is doing it's send/receive but zip. Nada.
I've been in I.T. for a good 10 years, if your "web" gmail is different to what is on your outlook and your only receiving some emails its safe to say it is outlook/a program on your computer. Disable ALL antivirus/firewall/mail filter programs (which can be hard to do properly). Recreate the mail profile with the following settings Email Address: Your full gmail address Incoming Mail Server: pop.gmail.com Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com (Note: If you have problems with sending email you may have to check with your internet provider, as they often require you to send email through their system. User Name: Your full gmail email address Incoming Server: 995 Check the box for “This server requires an encrypted connection” Outgoing Server (SMTP): 587 Change the type of encrypted connection to Auto, or use TLS if you have problems.
Outside of that if the problem still persists it might be a networking issue cause outlook not to sync properly. Network card drivers/hardware, TCPIP settings, IE lan settings, Proxy, Router ect ect ect. If worst comes to worst, I can team viewer onto you pc and fix it if you want. Switching from POP to IMAP or vise versa could also fix your problem. Oh also the amount of times I've thought to my self "I will re-install office, that might fix it!" out of the 100 times I have tried it, it NEVER once has been a corrupt install or yielded results.
Hmm thanks for the help. I've tried everything. My internet settings are the same, completely unchanged. It's been working for years like this. I did what you suggested above and it doesn't work, but it DID work with the recent:xyz@gmail.com but as soon as I took the "recent:" off, back to square 1.
I would check with your ISP as they may have had a security policy update that precludes you connecting to external mail servers on various ports, I had this issue with iiNet
Stu, gmail and outlook can be problematic. If you had a gmail business account you could use google apps sync. However it's not available for the plebs now, it used to be free. First things first, go to Control Panel > Mail and create a new mail profile, then follow these instructions: https://support.google.com/mail/troubleshooter/1668960?hl=en#ts=1665018,1665137,2769074 https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?hl=en
Hmm interesting thought. I might just check that out with TPG. What is puzzling me is why recent: works but why it doesn't under normal circumstances. All other settings are unchanged! @Linkin I've been running like this for around 8 years (I run office 2007 still heh), so while I get that there can be some problems, I've never seen anything like this before lol
Ok so delete the OST file of the original and outlook will automatically download all the e-mails from the server again.
Ok WELLLLLL believe it or not there is a max size of OST files being about 15 Gig before they can start corrupting. Same as PST files. It might be worth doing some archiving if it does work.
