Round 1 of the QRRC & SDRRS 14-15th of March at Morgan park raceway Warwick
The first round of racing has kicked off for 2015 and I will be competing in 250/300 production as well as formula 4.
Saturday morning starts off with 2 sets of qualifying per class. Best time for either session will be my time in reference to grid position for weekend as it being a static grid which means same all weekend!!
    So I left rd5 my first race setting a 1:45 and in 250/300 production I set a 1:42.74 grid pos 24 of 28
Formula 4 my pace was off a bit and set a 1:44.519 for grid pos 21 of 28 both classes are packed this weekend!!!!
Saturday afternoon would see 3 races before beers would be earned.
Race 1 formula 4 would be a 10 lap race pace was good 1:41.854 my best yet good tussle with peter laing (88) got in front and set my sights on pushing until a red flag on lap 5 for a fellow rider down. After a quick stop in pit lane we set off and on 1st flying lap had a moment and out braked myself into turn 1 causing me to lose front end and drop bike on grass I picked it up and straight back to pit to access damage not to much peter helped me straighten a bolt and was ready for 250 race!!!
Race 1 250/300 production this class also has gp and moto 3 bikes as well as 250/300
I knew as my pace on track was not at the middle groups times my starts were key and bar one race this was a great advantage for me to jump a few guys and get away from Miriam white (86) and peter laing (88) as my confidence was down after the stack my best lap was a 1:45.511 and finishing 22nd!!
Race 2 formula 4 was a 6 lap race my start was good and starting to get back in it nothing much happened and a 1:45.333 finishing 20th would suit me fine to finish day and regroup for Sunday!!
Race 2 250/300 was a 10 lap race, good start meant I had been left alone till lap 6 where I had a moment which meant Johan van Munster(39) caught up to me and passed me on straight for last 3 laps he never go away had a few chances to take a dive but found myself stronger through turn 7 through to 12 and tried to get drive onto straight, crossed the line .113 behind in tight finish with a best lap of 1:42.484 which helped my confidence and finish 15th in class.
Race 3 formula 4 had a great start got in front of peter (88) and rode my own race setting a 1:42.633.
Race 3 250/300 production on my start I cocked up and bogged it meaning Miriam and peter got me into first couple of turns. I managed to pass peter back but couldn’t drag Miriam in finished 21st and new pb of 1:41.552 stoked as I felt I wasn’t near that pace!!
Race 4 formula 4 last one for this class for weekend had good start and much the same rode my own race with a best of 1:41.974.
Race 4 250/300 last for the weekend and I was hoping to hit my goal of getting into the 30’s. My start was best of the weekend coming into turn 1 I came up on the inside of Tomahawk team member Brendan Allen and help him out for 2 laps which was a great achievement as he was running faster times but on lap 3 he blew past me!!! Lol. Pushing myself in this race I set my new pb of 1:40.744 not quite there but after race 1 as was happy!!!
I would like to say a big thanks to all officials and volunteers for their efforts!!! Wayne Reed from osella photographics for his top notch snaps and sitting in sun all weekend!!
The guys who support me Micks bike & car tyre dyno centre the cbr has been looked after and tuned on their dyno and is mickey mouse!!! C.L . Kitchens and Cabinetry callan is a stand up guy!!! Also my partner Trista for helping all weekend and friends who came out to watch!!! Special mention to Chris Mauerhan (74) for pitting with me on his racing debut he put in a top effort and left smiling for more!!!
Rd2 is March 7-8 get out for some racing and egg and bacon rolls!!!!!!

This is what the sport is about fun friends and helping everyone go faster! Thanks to all involved officials volunteers u make the weekend, Wayne for his awesome snaps, trista for being a top gun pit chief and of course my sponsors Mick's Bike & Car Tyres Dyno Centre wouldn't be improving my times if not for their tuning and mechanical skills, C.L. Round 2 of the SDRRS 7-8 march at Morgan park raceway Warwick.

The 2nd round had come quickly after rd 1 and meant lap times should be close to last round due to short break. The round was raced in memory of Bill Campbell, So in memory of Bill pole position was left open for the weekend and name printed on grid 1, we also raced the weekend with dedicated stickers in memory of him!!!

Once again I crossed entered in 250/300 production and formula 4 and both have 2 qualifying sessions and best out of the 2 is grid position for the weekend so it’simportant to get right into it.

250 production was first and all about getting a feel for the track, it was great from the get go and after my 2 sessions I set my new pb of 1:39.027 and grid position 16 for the weekend

Formula 4 was just the same bike ran great and my body position was getting better as the laps went on, setting a new pb of 1:39.011 and grid position 14 for the weekend.

    250 production race 1

First one for the day and not much happening setting consistent laps and not far off ash (93) and Johan (39) these guys are my target for the rest of the weekend. Finished 12th in class and a 1:39.541. I noticed during this race a lot of grip gone from my very old tyres and had no more pace out of them.

    image.jpg

After a few nasty incidents in other classes the day was over and all races would be on Sunday this meant 7 races and busy schedule. After talking to Brendan from tomahawk racing about my lack of rear and front grip he kindly offered to bring me up a set of worn tyres that he had but had more life than mine so he arrived early on track and I got them changed with 5 mins to spare before first formula 4 race!
    image.jpg

    Formula 4 race 1

Only 11 starters so points are on offer in this one. As soon as I hit turn 1 WOW grip hello the tyres were so much better and my fastest lap of 1:37.754 on lap 3 was proof of that. I spent the whole race trying to catch couple of guys in front but on last lap pushed a little too hard into turn 4(my demon) and took the rest of the lap easy to come home with some points.

    image.jpg

    250 production race 2

Great start and on the back of Johan(39) for the first 4 laps until I lost him, which worried me as I was pushing and couldn’t figure out where he got the pace from until I realized he broke down and all made sense again. Fastest time of 1:37.706 on lap 3.

    image.jpg

    Formula 4 race 2

Off the start ash(93) got a better start and got in front and I couldn’t manage to reel him even with setting a new pb again of 1:36.445 this meant only good things as we were all getting are times down to a lot of the mid pack from rd1 and make for some exciting racing to come.

    image.jpg

    250 production race 3

Good start and a 1:36.8 meant the tyres were helping but with guys faster and slower meant I was racing myself and didn’t make too much excitement this race!!!
    image.jpg

    Formula 4 race 3

This was to be the most exciting racing for me over the weekend!!! Off the start I was on the rear wheel of ash(93) and turn 4 was my weak point where he could pull away but getting good drive and pushing the bike into turn 7 through 12 meant I was getting a bit of tow off ash on the straight and manage to put the 68 into turn 1 in frontofhim, for the next 2 laps I pushed hard knowing ash was catching me in first half of track but I could open an advantage on the second half of the lap, last lap and turn 4 ash took the inside and got in front, I decided to sit on the back of him until we came out of the flip flop(turn11 and 12) and get the drive to the finish line just getting there first, as we crossed the line .067 of a sec separated us!!! We both gave a thumbs up as it pushed us both to set some good times and my new pb of 1:36.279!!!!!!!

    image.jpg

    250 production race 4

Last 250 race of the weekend and round. Start was great and had good battle with Johan (39) on his rs125 at the start until he pulled away and I couldn’t catch him!!! Set a 1:36.322 which is only.05 off my pb so I was pushing hard on what energy I had left lol.
    image.jpg

    Formula 4 race 4

Unfortunately I didn’t line up on this race as a friend had an accident and needed to help get his camp site and bike loaded before gates close as well as my own. He is ok and enjoyed the whole weekend except the obvious!!!

    image.jpg
    (My fav shot)
The weekend ran well and couldn’t have without the support from my sponsors micks bike and car tyre dyno centre, these guys look after my bike and have tuned it so sweet!!! So head down to a dyno day and check out how Mick and mark can get your bike running as good as mine!!!

Also Callan from C.L. kitchens and cabinetry and Mick from Kevlar Electrical for the ongoing support!!!

As always the one and only Trista for her expert pit skills!!! Friends and family for supporting me.

A big thanks to Brendan for the tyres, he will be back out for masters and rd3 and after his generosity I’m catching his times!!! But this is what are class is like anything to help each other get on track and get faster.

The fantastic shots are from Wayne reed of osella photographics and he spends all weekend out in the sun to provide us with these top notch snaps!!! Contact Wayne for any photo work you may need true professional!!!!

And last but by no means least the officials, volunteers, flaggies, ambos, and everyone involved in the weekend couldn’t go racing without your top effort every round!!!!

Can I first say to you Macca well done on getting your times down quite substantially over the weekend of racing just past.
Thanks also for helping me in my time of need.
I haven't posted anything yet on my little " OFF " at turn 10 but here goes.
Kifftas kindly allowed me to borrow his CBR 250 rr so I could again try my hand at racing.
Entered in the club racer class with my track day being on the Friday. All went well started to get to know the track andf all its corners and straight bits. All went very well with me and the bike going round in early 1.40s.
Saturday morning being qualifying and I again cut my times down to be in the late 1.30s.
Sunday saw me line up in my first race 15th on the grid out of 19, doesn't sound flash but I'm on a 250 and all around me I see 600s, 750s and a couple of 1098s.
Managed to finish 14 th in that race with my best lap of 1.36.7.
Next race is where it went wrong, started well , even past the Duke 1098 on turn 7 but on pushing it into turn 10 the back wheel stopped sticking, I left the bike my elbow hit the track and we both ended up on the dirt.
Got picked up by recovery and all I thought was that I had a bruised elbow. Got back to the pits , un zipped my leathers , and my wife noticed I had blood coming from my elbow through my skins, so up to the ambos I went. Passed out twice when I looked a the hole in my elbow ( hate the site of MY blood) and it was of to Warwick A+E. The ex rays revealed my worst fear...compound (7 bits) fracture. So off to Brisbane.
This is where I want to thanks everyone.
Macca, his good lady, all the boys and girls at the track and Paul from MCSportsmen who drove my Ute and trailer back to Brisbane.
    All top blokes and blokesses.

Oh and and I now have a plate and 4 screws that the good people at the RBH kindly donated to me and my elbow.

did it put me of racing.........

    No.
