So looks like the starter relay is cooked as i always have 12V on both sides of the relay, measured resistance of the starter motor terminal to earth and got Open Circuit...

So thinking the relay has stuck on and cooked the starter motor?

Is the start button stuck on? Seen it on some ducatis, it does indeed cook the starter, as well as the relay and battery.

I don't believe the button is stuck on as when i press the starter button i can hear the junction box relay energising (doesn't sound very healthy either though)

I guess jbox starter relay could have cooked first, and then cooked the starter solenoid/relay, and then the motor :/

I would make sure all the connections are clean and grunge free .... Ive seen those starter relay setups looking very ordinary
The RRs are known to get hot due to their location under the tank as mentioned and I think u are missing the vacuum cleaner hoses running "into" the tank ... they are for cooling .... and u are putting in some long stints so plenty of heat going on there

Normally if u were at home u could pull the starter and just bench test it .... maybe u could just disconnect it and just tap a straight lead from batt+ to starter + .... not that it will help much if the relay is a goner

At least if u can bump start u can get mobile

old bikes ... we luv um! :lolsign:

You might be able to get that regulator going again. The fault is that the spade connections go a bit soft over time. The contact pressure relaxes, contact resistance goes up and things start to get hot. Eventually it self destructs. See if you can get hold of some good quality spade terminals and terminate the wires. Clean the terminals really well. Good luck. Look forward to trying to catch up with you all at the island. I will be there on Sunday.

    Ok so...
The regulator i an running at the moment was new maybe 12 months ago, i also replaced all the terminals and some wiring at the same time, looking at it everything seems ok around the regulator (no burnt wires etc)

I did bring a spare regulator with me too lol.

I have a weird issue today, started sputtering above 12krpm when in gear, in neutral all is good though.

Ignition coils, plugs and plug caps are all new so don't think there would be an issue there?

Maybe one of my carb boots is getting loose?

    Day 3:
    Penrith >> Mittagong >> Nowra >> Batemans Bay >> Braidwood >> Queunbeyan >> Cooma

No new issues, bump starts galore, and issue at 12krpm.
Gonna try and check all the vaccum hoses and carb boots, might adjust out the air fuel screws (currently 2.5 turns out).

Could be. Maybe have a look at your airbox filter if it keeps stuttering. Pull it out and see if the stuttering continues.

Also, I hope you packed your wet weather gear. Philip Island forecast is looking a bit dodgy on Thursday & Friday...

    Day 4:
    Cooma >> Jindabyne >> Khancoban >> Tallangatta >> Mount Beauty >> Bright

Plugged the vac hose back in, running like a dream again, full revs and full power.
Mostly dry, started raining at mount beauty
Body has accustomed to the pain now.

Chased a couple of random litre bikes (not in our group) up through Kosciuszko, was the best ride by far.

    Don't eat hot Curry's on tour ...

You're a braver (also much younger) man than me. I don't think I could stand up for weeks.

    Glad you made it safely.
My arse would be so sore.
Now you can relax and have fun for a few days.
Then........ You have to do it again in reverse.

Looks like my engine has died, lots of clicking/tapping noises when accelerating in gear or in neutral...

    - Only seems to be making the noise when i have tbe throttle open
    - I overtook a car and then it started making a clicking noise, power seemed ok
    - Pulled over and the engine stopped (no idle?),
    - Waited for support vehicle, oil looked a little on the low side, topped it up (looks like my sightglass has stained)
    - bump started, set off again
    - clicking became more of a tapping/knocking, losing heaps of power, pull over, engine dies, back of the ute

I'm hoping something simple like exhaust come loose...

About 150k into the return journey RIP
