Hey guys jus wondering if I should be having my disc machined when I do my brake pads on my GSX250F or can I jus change the pads?
Are the disc worn or scored? Are they past minimum thickness? If not leave them alone and just fit your new pads.
Pads normally are enough. Most motorbike rotors can't be machined and remain roadworthy. As Murdo said, check the current thickness on the thinner point of the rotor, then compare with minimum legal thickness. Most motorbike rotors have only 5mm of usable thickness, and if you machine them, you easily go beyond the minimal.
I clean my rotors with a scotchbrite soap pad ...... google 'deglaze brake rotors' or discs or something similar Dont forget to bed in the new pads ...it usually has a 'how to' on the packaging.
