That bike is looking sweet. Times 2 for the dyno. The guy I use has an exhaust gas analyser. After I rebuilt my engine, I installed some main jets so the bike was running way rich. Then when it was put on the dyno there was no chance of nipping it up and we dropped down jets until it was running just a poomteenth rich so I have a bit of peace of mind when winter comes on. The rich jets help if you do run a tank of pre-mix as well as the oil injection when you first start it up because that will lean out the mixture some. Some guys I know run clear hoses to the oil pump to be doubly sure it's all working as it should.

I think they were Athena, came as part of the engine work as supplied parts with pistons & seals etc
I'm sure they're quality parts just caught us out, won't happen again.

Crook gasket. It's probably deformed a bit now but it was always out of shape, even the hole centres don't match IMG_2120.JPG IMG_2118.JPG IMG_2119.JPG

They finally got her going, sounds strong & raspy from what I could hear over the phone.
I couldn't be there, after all this time. Had to do the good husband bloody thing !
They had a days drama with the carbies flooding, initially thought that the drain screws were leaking as the carb overflow drains out the same hole. Carbies in & out 3 times before they found that it was the new needle & seat I installed with all the new jets & needles ! They re installed the old ones & it stopped. I got a whole carby kit for both for $30, lesson learnt, but the jets are stamped Mikuni, hope they are right!
So inevitably the crankcases were full of fuel & she took a bit of kicking, broke out the start ya bastard & with one small squirt she slowly came to life, lots of smoke & then all clear.
She'll sit now till the fairings are done & registered so a road run in can be done.
Primer this weekend then all the sanding can start. The fairings have been pre fitted & alls good.
There's no video yet, they ran out of phone battery after 2 day's re fit the barrels & carbies numerous times, nothing happens quick with the 2 original Captain slow's
Very happy that she goes so well so far, no electrical gremlins or fluffy carbs, everything worked perfectly.
I'll post a vid if I get up there this week.

Finally got up to the Bay & took a video of of it going but I don't know how to upload it
I moved the video onto the computer but it isn't there when I try to do the upload a file on the website ??
Also the vid is sideways, do you have to hold the phone sideways to get a straight video, anyway I cant see anyway of rotating it like with pictures.
Sorry, I'm old & a tradesman & haven't had to do anything with videos like this before.

Ok I'll give it a go.
In the mean time, we just finished fitting all the fairings with great success, Tyga's stuff is good, a little tweaking with the dremmel & perfect.
Primer tomorrow, maybe paint on Monday. IMG_2187.JPG

I'm trying to upload the Vid but seems like it'll take 173 mins ! is that normal or will I expect a $10 000 bill from Telstra for the upload.
I tried to edit the vid but can't see anyway of doing it before It uploads
I'll let it run for now or till someone comes to the rescue.

did you use the plastic clear coat first for adhesion like they use on abs bumpers?

    sounds damn good.

No, they come with a gel-coat on the fibreglass. Very thin & very light but strong.
I think your talking about plastic primer, it's ugly stuff, it runs like a bum in Bali.
I'm using a sanding primer, Valspar 2 pak Surfacer, beautiful stuff, it sands up easily to a perfectly smooth finish, hi build so you can sand out blemishes & it'll show up all the hollows to be filled if any.
The tank had a heap of dings & depressions in it & the local restoration guy at Gateshead fixed them, Classic Restorations I think, bloody beautiful job, no bog, done the good old way by a good old tradesman.
Base coats & stickers & then the clear over, maybe tomorrow. Big job with all those decals & a chook house to renovate too
Rego next week so we can take it out on the road to do a run in.
Yeah very happy so far, that sound is beautiful, you can hear that strong beat through the exhaust, she'll have good hp, It'll fly with Emma on board, she'll have trouble keeping the front wheel down.

She's completely finished, dad's been out on her a number of times getting it run in & I finally got time to go for a short ride & she goes like a rocket considering it's a 250 !
Next project is a 500, it might mean a divorce but it's worth the risk, imagine double that, no wonder they had trouble riding them in GP, the power comes on with such a rush, the RGV pulled fairly hard from low revs but from 7k she explodes through to 11 - 12k, & it would keep going if I was mad enough so a 500 would blow my mind & I'm into that sort of thing.

And guess who got a new bike lift ?

Good looking bike, in these days of being PC its great to see another bike with cigarette advertising on it. This is what Im doing at the minute. So far Ive just put the motor back together. 3 pot NS 400 bored to 485, and a few other tricks, should be around 85-90 hp at the back wheel.

Looks awesome, 3 cylinder bikes get my leg shaking & 2 stroke just tops it off.
I'm on the look out for something new to restore & make a bit nice, I'll have to educate myself a bit re the 400's
We'll run the RGV at the Barry Sheen in March, it's pretty much a short distance bike, race bike really, single ring piston, not made for just riding, maybe a bit of a mistake but it is what it is & can be changed.
we were expecting around 70hp, I have to persuade the dyno guy to tune the carbies yet, he's said no so far with the risk of seizure, she's in need of bigger jets now with all the mods & we'd just be guessing. We were given some suggested jet sizes but I've misplaced the note.
