I'd always tie a colour into a theme in more than one place. And think of the engine are you going to paint that or polish it up to silver? It could be too contrasty to paint just the tank white and have nothing else white on the bike.

Also, your tank has to be in perfect condition with no dents or marks because it could show up everything so just be careful.

What kind've era are you looking to go for?

Tank looks good to me, but your bike so what ever you wish to paint it.
I don't like satin for things like tanks as it shows dirt too easily. Gloss can be wiped off with a rag.

Oh man i was even thinking of a satin dark grey! The tank is in perfect condition i fixed all the dents and made it look brand new. Im going for everything black a little silver here and there, so far the silver is the rear shocks, a few bolts, front forks, speedo mounting bracket which i have a pic of when i was playing today. I was originally going for a colour that kept some sort of originality as the bike was red from factory but im going to wait for the colour. Im a painter so i can change anytime and not worry about cost. I was rubbing down the engine today going all black with shaved fins. Gotta buy some clips on handle bars this week and fork gaiters. Also an oil filter, spark plugs, engine sprocket and chain. I think that will be everything and i am so close to putting this bike on the road. My bank account doesnt agree with me at the moment so after christmas i will finish!

Hello everyone its been a while, christmas is nearly here so ive been busy. Finally im on holidays so im getting back into my bike build. I painted my engine today in gloss black which is a big step for me means the engine can finally go back in. Ive never seen the engine in the bike because the bike was in pieces when i got it. Gotta work out electricals as the wiring loom is old and crusty but im also trained in soldering so thats lucky!

Always the best part of a restoration/modification project is when all is painted and ready to be put back together. Let the fun begin.

Ok well you guys need to help me. Ive got the wiring diagram and of course its confusing but i can work it out. The wires on some of the parts are not the same colour as the diagram its driving me mad. Also wheres is everyone mounting their wiring im doing it under the seat pan but wanna put a metal plate over the top to hide it

i made a little box above where the airbox was, that only goes down to the underside of the frame , and made a seat base up that had some extra room above it , that fits the relays, CDI box and the reg/rec , behind the small bar that joins the two frame sides i plan to put Antigravity Lithium battery

To just get the bike running the wiring isnt too bad, i would recomend only connecting 2 of the AC wires to the rec/reg otherwise it really cooks the thing, originally the 3rd one is wired to come on with the headlight.
let me know if you need help with anything and i'll see what i can do :)

thanks for the reply. Ive worked it out with the odd coloured wires. What ive got left is a blue wire coming from the motor and a brown wire coming from the regulator. The blue wire is a single long wire. Is your regulator for 5 wires 3 white, 1 red and 1 brown plus the earth?

blue wire should be the neutral indicator
the regulator should be (left to right) ground, AC1,AC2,AC3 Positive (the ground wire is slightly further apart than the others)
and the earth was connected to the screw that held the regulator down, its the same as the ground wire the only difference being that the - and + coming out of the regulator should be thicker gauge because they are charging your battery

(also heres a crappy picture of the stock connector then I first got it)

Soo... i decided to mount my battery box at the bottom of the frame to keep that area free like lots of cafe racers ive seen. Was super easy to mount as i mounted the the bar on the frame that my centre stand originally was. Waiting for my clip on handlebars and headlight mounts so i can finish the wiring off. Buying some tyres and looking at dunlop 4.00 18s K70. Was wondering what everyone else was using. I love the look of the firestone 4.50 18 but too expensive for me!
