Recently i bought a 1981 gsx250 which was in pieces for $200 all the parts are there except for a carby and exhaust. The bike has seen better days. Im a spray painter by trade and im passionate about motorcycles. This is my first bike and im going to make it into a cafe racer brat bike from start to finish
In the photos are pictures of the bike when i first got it. Ive got my work cut out for me but please follow tmp_28292-20150202_0956381770211770.jpg tmp_28292-20150202_094612-258501129.jpg

:welcome: You've got a bit to do there, but a good project when finished.
My daughter is also a painter in a panel shop on the Gold Coast.

    Welcome to the forum Brooke
The gsx250 seems to be the ideal bike to convert into a café racer, you will find several members on the forum who have gone down the path you are about to embark on. We look forward to following your progress and good luck with it.:thumb_ups:

Hey guys thanks for the replies, i painted my tank on the weekend after plenty of bog repairs and hitting it numerous times with the hammer. Still havent decided if i want to add some black to it. The frame is currently getting a seat hoop welded on and a seat pan more photos to come

Welcome and good luck with this project. Tank looks a great shape for a Cafe Racer.

Well, I've got my carbis all done, did it at work with the ultrasonic cleaner and they came out brilliant, i changed the gaskets on the float bowls since they were the original and very crusty also got new screws to make it look sharp. using pod filters on it and painted it black see photo, the frame is getting welded currently by one of my friends and a seat pan is being made,I'm still deciding on if i want to put anything else on the tank i.e black lines or stickers so your input would be great! Turns out i need to get a new front brake also as the one thats on there has been replaced by something off a pit bike! which is way to small!

Looking good. Love the black carby!

What are your plans for jets in the carbs with the pods?
Only ask this as I'm going through the same thing at the moment. Think I will get mine up and running using the air box first then start to play around.

Today i decided on a sticker for the tank also got a heap of parts delivered inc. Headlight, HEL brake line, horn, fuel lines, foot pegs and clutch lever. Its exciting waiting for the mail man to come! Waiting for more parts this week inc the gasket kit for the engine so i can get that going. Also Evo im leaving the carbs as is. The jets were already adjusted before i started and running i just needed to give it a clean and some tlc.

Havent posted in a while been too busy, engine will be picked up this week all rebuilt and running! Ive painted little bits and pieces over the week. Headlight brackets, front brake, lower triple tree, and levers etc all in black. Ive decided to get the handle bar holders machined off as well as the gauge holders as ill be using new gauges. Ive got a photo of how it looks. Getting the holes on the triple tree welded this weekend to fill them up. My front forks have also been painted with the lower halves in gloss black. Frame will be back this week and ive decided to put indicators on front and back for safety reasons. Here is sa we have terrible drivers! Also my seat has been done!
