I have one of these and used it to compress the plates to get the clip on...tricky but it works
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorcycle-...Parts_Accessories&hash=item3ceef8b5cf&vxp=mtr

I used a dremel type tool to cut the extra links of but u need to be careful

Sounds like the pads are scraping ..... take out the brake pads and push the pistons back in and check for rust and **** first and clean them up then replace the pads ...... alternatively just take off the caliper and do the same ...no need to disconnect anything

I'm toying with some ideas including a nut and some vice grips. Vice grips are a bit risky and dodgey but in the absence of the proper tool I may have to gamble. I just don't want to bend the link.

You will pop the o rings before u bend the plates ....which means u have gone way to far

It doesn't take much pressure to get the grooves to show ...it just needs to be applied in the right place

Ok, so been pretty busy today.

Touched up the frame with some "rustguard" matt black paint that I got from bunnings - seemed to come up pretty well. Note my dodgey paddock stand, sometimes you have to make do with what you have haha...

    20150117_162120.jpg

Gave the exhaust a wash down in preparation for high temp paint, got it from supacheap wasn't too unreasonably priced. Unfortunately a limited range of colours, so I decided to go with grey. Bit of a transition of the exhaust:

    20150109_174226.jpg 20150117_125635.jpg 20150117_163121.jpg

Sprockets are both on, looking good. To cover the extra 2mm on the front sprocket (this is 7mm flat, the original had a small 2mm raised section making it 9mm around the shaft. Covered in detail in other threads) I ordered another lock washer from a local dealer (like $7) and I'll flatten it and just double up on washers when I put the lock nut back on. Will see how it pans out anyway.

    20150117_162152.jpg

Chain was a royal pain. It's mostly there but not quite there. I may have to get someone to have a look because I'm not satisfied with this result.

    20150117_162140.jpg

Once the header is dry exhaust goes back on, radiator, coolant, oil. Almost there, just awaiting the carby kit and EXUP cables. Might take a closer look at the brakes as well while I'm waiting for those last couple of parts.

I like to clean the clip and link and put a dob of silicone on it as a safety measure.

Open end of the clip doesn't look like its in the groove .....squeeze it together with pliers

Have u tightened the chain to the recommended slack? ......the links arnt straight like it hasn't been pulled taught

Did u fold up one edge of the front sprocket lock washer?

No havent finished yet Grey. The wheel is still loose, I wanted to get the link in properly first I'm just considering how to do that.

And no on the sprocket as well, it's just finger tight for the moment until I get the 2nd lock washer to fill in the gap.

If the clip has lost its 'spring' from trying to get it on then u can buy just clips from the bike shop ..... Grasshoppers kit chain from Slipstream had no clip in the box so we got some from the shop ... only a couple dollars

Awesome good to know. I may end up doing that because I think I hammered this clip pretty hard at first.

To expose the grooves I placed a nut at the rear of the chain (opposite side to the clip) over each of the pins and put some vice grips on and clipped them tight. Worked a treat, so it definitely was about pressure in the "right place".

When u go to push on the clip have the chain super tight so it doesn't move about

And dont hammer it ..... just use pliers or similar and eventually it will pop on ..... just like the link , u hit the sweet spot and it will just 'clip on'

So.... exhaust is back on, radiator and overflow reservoir is back on and full of new coolant, in the process of oiling the throttle cables after taking that apart a bit more. They don't look too bad, but will need some adjustment once I re install. Still to do the back wheel properly, may have to drop into a bike shop and grab another chain link - on closer look I'm pretty sure I killed this one.

    20150118_165617 - Copy.jpg

And of course, wouldn't be the same without...

    20150118_165629 - Copy.jpg

Carby to service when I get the Litetek kit and still awaiting the exup cable repair kit. Shouldn't be too much more now, long weekend coming up may do the brakes just for the heck of it - didn't have time this weekend.

Well I have been sitting pretty without a running bike since early 2013 and I'm desperate to hit up the twisties around Vic I keep seeing when I'm driving around. Not bad motivation haha.

Hey @GreyImport how do I get the slide housing out? seems to be stuck in place. Jet housing's off, everything else I can see, but I've left the four carbs stuck together. Is there another screw somewhere holding that slide housing in? Do I need to take all carbs separately apart?

Nevermind, a thumb press and out she popped. Was just concerned about putting too much pressure on the parts...

Yeh I've only got the service kit though I didn't get both kits. The main jet o ring was cactus, others looked like they were on their last legs. the carby is pretty clean though, so that's good news. Couple of questions if you don't mind...

    1. I can't seem to fit the float needle housing o ring properly. I've watched Litetek's video on the oversize but that definitely doesn't fit. I push it down pretty hard and it doesn't seem to enter the chamber, it kind of slowly squeezes up and sits on top. Maybe I'm just not pushing hard enough, I wouldn't consider it a "loose fit" though.

    2. I'm not sure what to do with the jets. I put the new o ring into the main jet and screwed it back in so it was snug, I unscrewed the other just to check it was clear and it was fine. I screwed that back in until it was snug too. Good enough? I've heard all sorts of half turns, quarter turns and uhh... I dunno...

    3. The slide housing. I tightened the jet housing gently and it seems good but I didn't tighten it very much. It's hard to tell if it's tight enough of not, looking at the slide housing inside the carby chamber it's hard to tell, it seems to line up...

    I'm such a carbie newbie....

    Hey Guys,

How did you set up your needles in the carbies? mine are central, (3rd from top) but I heard the sweet spot may be the next one up.

Also pilot screws? I unscrewed one and it came out at 8 1/2 turns or so, when I put it back in I turned it 8 full turns. Any thoughts?

    Cheers,
