Hi, new member here from NZ. I have a hybrid ZXR250A/RD400. I'm looking for the specs for the forks (oil weight, levels etc) so I can rebuild the forks. I believe the oil is 5 weight and that it takes 400mls. Is this correct? I've checked out the resources page but that chapter is not there. Cheers
Hi mate...welcome to the community Been having a few glitches with the last few parts to that manual but Ive got the section up now that includes suspension .....let me know if u get it ok . http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?resources/kawasaki-zxr250-service-manual-part-9.61/
Hey Skunk Welcome to the forum. Am interested in your hybrid, can't wait to see some photos. Good luck with the forks.
Hey Skunk A RD400 with decent suspension... now that would be fun. The forks on the C model verses the A model are slightly different, I have always heard 400mm is on the money, however the service manual for the C model says 430mm +- 4mm if completely dry or 365 when changing the oil, if you get a definitive answer, please lets us know. Cheers Kiffsta
Okay, now I get it, a ZXR250 with an RD400 engine... Nice How does it ride ? The RDs were known to wheel stand on demand, I would hazard a guess you would getting a fair bit more than the 44hp out a stock RD400 engine ?
Hardly been going, blew it up first time out (crankcase seal leak). Second time it wouldn't run on both cylinders. I think I've fixed those issues so I'm repairing the fork seal that blew when I tied it down in the van! This hybrid has been testing my skills and patience for the last three years. I am winning though. For those interested: The RD400 engine is a C model with an E crank. It's fitted with a modified LC 350 flywheel with two pickups. The reason for two pickups is because the crank has been changed to 270 degree firing. It's fitted with an Ignitech programmable ignition. Standard porting and carbs and the gearbox is fitted with RD250 ratios to give and closer ratio box. It's still a six speed box though. Next chance to run it is 8 June so I'll see how it is then. Oh, open the throttle and the front comes up! Might be the 50ish horses that assist that.
Done the oil levels and now I see why there may be confusion about the quantity of oil required. It needs at least 400mls to get the level high enough to correctly bleed the fork. After that the level needs to be lowered to the stated 85mm. It's all in the manual.
