    Hey,

My zxr250a is burning oil out the exhaust, blue smoke. It's never been doing this until I flooded it a few months ago resulting in it not running, and me just attempting to start it every now and then. Now that I've replaced the sparks, it runs okay, just burns oil out the exhaust.

So I'm in the process of elimination to find the leak where the oil is getting into the cylinders from, that being the most likely spot in my opinion.

I've googled the problem but I can't really find where to start. Do I need to buy a gasket before I take the header off the motor? I was guessing I need to do that, inspect the valves for leaks, and inspect the piston for leaks (is this done by filling up the cylinder with oil and seeing if the oil level drops?).

I'm in the process of 'restoring' the zxr250a to a good condition, the first thing is to have the engine running in good order. It is important to note I did to a compression test and all 4 cylinders have good compression.

    Thanks,
    Ryan

Ive made u a Premium member so u can download now

Before tearing it apart, if it was me , I would check (or change) the oil then take it out for a decent run and heat cycle .... put the thing under load , especially if its been "sitting" for a long period

If it was flooded it may have contaminated the oil and thinned it out enough that it will get past the rings or the valve stem seals under vacuum (deceleration from high rpm).

Grey is right, first step is an oil/filter change with fresh stuff, then reassess.

After that, if you continue to blow blue smoke, the only way oil can into the cylinders is via rings or valve stem seals.

Cheers for the replies, I haven't taken it for a ride yet since it has been sitting for a while. But i'll follow your advice and give it a good run, then go from there.

The oil was contaminated so I swapped that and the filter. Thanks for confirming that!

Thanks for letting me download that, I was a paid member when I joined a few years ago. Have there been some changes with subscriptions to the website?

I just had a read of that thread, sorry to hear you got screwed by paypal. I agree, it's a silly company, operated by silly people. I've been charged back a few times and there's nothing you can do.

I couldn't see any direction to support the website, let me know where I can send you a beer!
