And so, on a wet Boxing Day in Melbourne my track bike project commences. Hope that is not an omen of things to come. I feel both excited and daunted at the same time. She is not currently running but everything seems to be there. I will probably start by checking compression and the carbies. If she proves to be a lame duck then she will be a really good parts bike. That would be a shame though so I hope it does not come to that. Wish me luck...I feel that I will be needing some luck.

That bike has a nice fairing scheme. I saw it on ebay. My god the tank is shagged!

Ha ha, yes I got carried away on ebay. The tank could be an issue if I cannot find a replacement. I am contemplating restoring the tank as a little side project.

It will be hard to find one. I have 3 one is a sieve around where those rust holes of yours is. One has rust in those spots and one is almost perfect.

In saying that some constructive feedback. If the tank is that rusty I dare say you have blocked carbs and to get it to fire it might be as simple as cleaning them :) then it will probably be time to find some vacuum leaks! Lol

Must be my lucky day, I managed to find a rare fuel tank for my ZXR250A in very good condition. Not a single dent and minimal surface rust inside. Just needs a respray. I am smiling all over! By the way, I know of two other tanks for the same model in Tassie but not as good condition.

Status so far: The carbs are off for a cleanup and then I will try and start her up. Holding thumbs that there will be spark and no major engine or gearbox dramas.

Found an excellent video on how to check and clean carbs on Youtube.

Hello I am not 100% sure but I ordered and got sent the wrong set of fairings from china and they won't correct there mistake! So would you be interested in a brand new set of Lime green fairings for your bike? I am looking for a set of ZXR 250 C 1992 fairings? I think the ones I have are for a 91 and can send pictures and details offer as a trade or fair price?

Hi, apologies for the late reply, I have been away on business and not watching the site. My bike is currently a non-runner so not really wanting to spend on cosmetic enhancements before I am sure that she still has some life in her. I would be surprised if you don't find a buyer though.

Bit of bad news, the compression numbers are not good. I see a rebuild in my future. Wondering how readily I will be able to get hold of spares. Going to whip the head off and try and figure out why compression is low. Wish me luck.
