Hi All, Does anyone have the special tool (part no. 57001-241) for doing the valves on a ZXR250? As usual, they're expensive from Kawasaki. Ta
Could you make one from a 'G' clamp with the ends welded to it? Have seen those round bar type clamps at a tool shop somewhere, maybe Bunnings.
I have one of these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-10-P...=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35d8827121
Do you need to do the valve clearances with a valve spring compressor? or put that another way...you need a valve spring compressor to do the valve clearances-HUH?
No, that tool is for removing the valve spring retainers so you can remove the springs and valves to remachine the seating surfaces. I just bought one too. Decided that I have struggled enough over the years with home made stuff, and at that price will pay for itself with the next engine I do (not to mention the skinned knuckles).
Heres a writeup on doing it on an FZR ...... should give u an insight into wats required http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/fzr250-zeal-fzx250-valve-clearances-howto.1697/
I bought what Kiffsta has. I haven't used it yet, but hope to in the next few weeks. will post once I do. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-10-P...=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35d8827121
the valve spring compressor would only be used if the cylinder head is off, I don't think I've ever had to remove a cylinder head in my life to do valve clearances...
You're right Rossco. Thread title is misleading...my fault. I do have the head off one engine and I want to do the valve clearances on another, so all good.
