    So here goes;
I cleaned the carbs out on my bike, and set the mixture screw to factory settings (2.5 turns out) and the bike started fine. During this time I also epoxied around the fuel tank tap where it is prone to leak, as it was leaking. The bike started fine and idled great, with no hesitation at the throttle when I revved it, but after riding it down the road, it began to miss and run on 2/3 cylinders, and after about 500m, it stopped. It wouldn't start either by the starter motor or by pushing it, although it would start and run after I left it for about 5 minutes, but only just and very rough and only with the choke on,(missing on 2/3 cylinders) and would stall after about 500m as well.

I have checked the rectifier/regulator to see if the wires have melted etc (This happened before and had the similar symptoms) and of course I checked the fuel.

Can anyone enlighten me on what it may be?

Also, I am after a muffler around Brisbane/GC/SC areas, so if someone has one for sale let me know

Interesting yet painful problem to solve, I think you would need to first diagnose if its a fuel/air issue or an electrical issue.
without finding that out first there are far to many posiblities to consider.

First replace the spark plugs, then when it next happens have another spark plug spare to check the strength on the spark on all the coil leads. Hopefully its not a timing issue!!!

If thats all good you can pretty much assume its your fuel/air somewhere.
    Idle screw carbs ect.

But changing your spark plugs and checking the spark strength is a bloody good place to start in your situation id say.

    Awesome thanks chris

Curious though, but how could it be an air/fuel issue if it only happens when it is warm after riding? Wouldnt it be starting and running rough/hard to start if it was an air/fuel issue?

I have replaced plugs, but I will check the coils and spark strength later today

depends, idol mixture screw could be set too high to compensate for the lean pilot screws and as it heats up it might be running it so rich that its cutting out who knows?

One step at a time though, way too many posibilities at this point. if spark plugs have been changed thats good. should be pretty easy and quick to check spark strength from there.

If you have worked on the carbs and then had a problem Id be looking back to the carbs again

It could be starving of fuel ..... if it runs again after sitting then 1 or more of the bowls may not be filling

There may be a vacuum forming in the tank cuz the breather is blocked ..... see if it runs with the cap open

Maybe u epoxied off the fuel supply ..... ? :D

If the tap is leaking then replace it or at least pull it apart and check the seals and wateva

Run it on prime to negate the vacuum controlled fuel supply.

Have u looked inside the tank for grunge? .... maybe u stirred it up and its gone thru the system to the carbs ... is there an inline fuel filter? .... is it new ? .. is it on in the correct direction?

Also ... unscrew the plug caps and snip a couple of mms of the ends of the leads and screw the caps back into the fresh wire.

Check that the leads from the coils go to the correct plug ... 1 coil to 1 and 4 cylinder and the other pair to 2 and 3
