So after finally getting butterfly rod straight and carbies all back together I have now encounted another issue. If you hold the throttle firm and run the bike it idles fine but if you let go of the throttle it creeps itself up to around 4000rpm (this is with choke closed) I've tried adjusting everything i could but appears like the retunr cable can't be adjusted just seems to end up in the same place every time. Is this the bike telling me I need new cables?

    Recorded video hopefully it helps

    Thanks in advance
    Your local cursed Zeal owner

Looks to me like the the cable that opens the butterflies is too tight and holding them slightly open. How much slack is there when you open the throttle?

The throttle its easily has 3-5mm slack as to the specs

Throttle tube is not the wrong way around? New cables might be the right way to go.

Try winding your pilot screws out 1/2 turn and see what happens.

Throttle should spring back instantly when u let it go ..... start by disconnecting the return cable

Is the return spring connected to the right side of the shaft?

With engine off throttle springs abck perfectly fine as well with the certifying click it makes upon return. Will disconnect return tomorrow and see what it does (how do you adjust it everytime i tried it looked like it ended up in the same spot). @maelstrom if it was the pilot screws shouldn't it cause the revs still to up when the throttle is forced off?

As for springs being in correct place everything was photographed before removal to ensure everything went back the same way. When i engaged throttle on carby prior to install all valves closed off fully.

Are you sure you've reassembled the cables correctly? Doubly sure you haven't got them the wrong way around (or wrapped them the wrong way around the pulley on the bar)? I know someone else asked it, but with push/pull throttles I believe one is slightly shorter than the other which would easily explain it... Have you tried switching them at the throttle housing on the handle bar?

So is the bent on meant to be closest to ride or other? I never removed the cables from the handle bar so the bent one is in the throttle open section of the throttle itself. It is also the one with the upper adjustment which leads me to believe it is the throttle on cable.

Trace cable that becomes shorter as you open the throttle is the one that should be operating the butterflies. Doesn't mean they haven't been reversed.

On the fizzers, the straight one is what operates the butterflies. I ran without the 2nd cable until I bought a new set of cables. The throttle would jam and not close cleanly because the 2nd cable was stretched/frayed inside the throttle grip.

To give you a straight answer, on my bike the bent one is closest to the rider.

So checked cables they are defiantly connect correctly, tried another test of removed both cables from the handle and started bike of which is still reved up to 4000 on its on. I think chance of a kink in the cable is out of the question as it clicks back correctly, also noticed while off it i pull throttle and released I can here the valves closing up so it appears to be only;y while the bike is on. i guess it may be another trip to the mechanics and get them to have a look over it.

Problem solved. Ended up being these adjustment screws on the carbies. Runs like a dream now and even easily got her up to 120 and it still had power to go.
