Just checked the chargeing circuit and I am not getting any chargeing. Pulled the regulator cleaned to terminals, still nothing. Checked voltage from the alternator and I get 45 volts without revving too hard. To me that says the regulator is kaput. That is the easy part.
I have a four wire general purpose regulator which should work but how do I wire it? The original regulator has five wires two from the alternator and the out put has three, Red Black and Brown. Looking at the wiring diagram the chargeing circuit is the Red and Black wires what do I do with the Brown wire?
I suspect that I must just leave the brown wire disconnected.
Can a kind electrically minded person tell me?

OK, I fitted the 4 wire regulator eliminating the brown wire in the loom which I kept disconnected.
I get 13.75 volts normal running and 13.4 with the lights on. Perhaps a smigin low but adequate I think, time and miles will tell.
