Hi all X7 experts! I just opened my X7 top end to check everything as it had been standing for some time (1.5 years) and the carbs needed cleaning anyway. On removing the cylinder head I noticed the r/h cylinder was FULL of oil! I then removed the exhausts (r/h one full of oil too) and the barrel was full of oil too. It appears to be 2-stroke oil but I'm puzzled on how it managed to get there. Any ideas anyone?

i had an old two stroke that was left sitting for awhile, all the fuel had dried up leaving oil sludge everywhere. if it uses premix is it possible it could have been leaking fuel that has dried up?

    Hey Harvey
Think zixxer makes a valid point however the X7 is oil injected therefore needs the engine running to pump oil???
By chance was yours using premix at the time of parking the bike up? This scenario has me puzzled, something doesn't add up.
Could it be fuel rather than oil? just thinking out loud! Sorry I can't offer more help, keep us posted.

I think that your clutch side seal is leaking allowing gearbox oil leaking in to the crank case-check the gearbox oil level.

Thanks for your input guys. Phil, the X7 is oil injected via a pump and it was using this method last time it was running.
tintankaussie, I have checked the gearbox oil/level and all looks normal in there:oops: . The 2T oil was Motul 710 ester and was red in colour (unlike the "clear" gearbox oil) so the oil in the r/h cylinder was defo 2T......very strange I know.

Anyway I'm going to chuck it back together and see what happens....let you all know what happens:confused:

once its back together, just make sure your oil pump cables are correctly adjusted so she is getting the right amount of oil, there are marks to set them properly on the X7

Your problem is the non return (or check) valve in the oil lines from the pump to the intake manifold or main bearing. These need positive pressure from the oil pump to open and allow oil through to the intake/main bearing, then close to stop crankcase pressure from pushing the oil back. When they get stuck open they allow oil from the tank to drain through the pump and into the cases.
I would suggest that a good clean up and using the bike and it will most probably fix itself.
Please don't ever think that you can disconnect the oil pump and run premix on a Suzuki as they have an oil feed to the main and big end bearings with seals to keep the fuel away from the bearings. I have one to rebuild that seized the main bearing from running premix.

Thanks guys, I put the top end back on today and ran it for a couple of miles. On low revs it only runs on the r/h but once over 4,000rpm it picks up on both , hits 6,000 and takes off. As Murdo said, I'll probably sort it's self out with a run......so far, so good.
The l/h carb overflows so I guess it has a sticky float so back off again tomorrow for another clean!!! BTW both cylinder run fine on choke.
I'll keep an eye on the oil consumption so fingers crossed, no major problems!

Ok Guys, I spent a few hours cleaning the carbs out etc, fitted a pair of Micron exhausts I've had standing around for a few years and now its running like a dream. I'm no longer worried about the Oil fill problem but as Murdo said it has sorted it self out. :thumb_ups:

    Happy times ahead:)
