this wierd clonking noise ahs started to develope on ym baby lately. assuming i'm cruising at about 20 in 2nd, and drop it to first, unless I let the clutch out REALLY slowly, the bike makes these god-awful clonking sounds, and the bike jerks until it finds a good spot. another example: any engine braking AT ALL, causes the bike to clonk it's way until i get to lower rpm. it feels as though the chain's jumping or the like, but I checked it for tension and i made sure the sprocket was tight, because that's what my first thought was. sorry for the vague explanation, any ideas? edit: giving it throttle when downchanging helps, but doesn't eliminate the problem.
Did you check both sprocket tightness and number of teeth (are they all there?) Next, inspect the chain and make sure all of the rollers are there. When you say you checked tension of the chain, approximately how much slack? How far back ar the chain adjusters? After that it starts to get ugly..... a. Outputshaft bearing on the trans, located behind the front sprocket and seal. b. Engagement dogs on 1st and 2nd gears.
what's wierd is under acceleration, i can hear it, sounds like a knocking noise, but it doens't make the bike do anything funky. when i get home i'll check the back wheel tightness and srocket. if i'm just cruising at say 60km/h, no hard eccel, jsut cruising, i won't hear the noise. And it happens with every gear, not just 1st and 2nd, they're just the best examples edit: gotta learn how to type :/
i had a verry similar problem but not quite as bad, all it was, was excesive chain and sprocket ware so maybe you might look at a knew chain ans sprockets.
<!-- s:rofl: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt="" title="Rofl" /><!-- s:rofl: --> In the end it was just my chain being too loose, I tightened it and all is good now.
all i did was undo the back wheel, pull it back a bit, and tighten it again. There two little nuts at the end of the swingarm that are for minor adjustments.
