Yeah I know I could purchase Brembo or Alcon etc brakes and fit them, but the guy I brought the bike off did not fit them so it must of come from Japan with them already fitted I was wondering if Kawasaki may have changed brake suppliers between different years. The bike is like new apart from some surface rust on the odd fastener from storage and has less than 6000 genuine km on it which makes me think that they were fitted at the factory.
How can you be sure? I have fitted more aftermarket brakes to my track cars than I care to remember, these don't appear to be cheap knock offs, the fact that is the correct logo is cast into the brakes rather than just a decal makes me think they are Brembo. I'll pull a caliper off tomorrow and check for part numbers.
Well **** me, the original owner of this bike in Japan spent a lot of time and effort making the brake calipers look like real Brembos. Pulled one off washed the dirt and dust off it. Its a Tokico Japan Caliper with Alloy Brembo Decals. I mean why bother Tokico brakes are fine. I am going to have to remove the Decals its just not right. There you go.
After even closer examination the guy has built up the original brakes then sculptured them (so smooth), then added the alloy Brembo Decals and only then sprayed the calipers as the paint is also on the sides of the decals. Some of the fasteners are also fake. Seriously why the hell would anyone go to all that trouble. If they wanted different calipers it would be cheaper to just them. Am getting a set of stock calipers fitted ASAP as I want the bike to remain original.
If the first owner in Japan has gone to that much trouble to make his bike different from his friend's ones I'd leave it like that. Why change it back to OE when the world is full of OE examples ? There are a heap of pics on line of lightly customised bikes in Japan - showing how far some will go to simply be different. Those calipers are now part of the bike's history. Change them and the history is lost.
Good point, I will definitely keep them. The bike is just so original in every other way almost like a brand new bike. If they were real I would definitely leave them on. I will get some original calipers, do them up they are like new and then think about it for a while. Cheers
Don't worry have been trying to find a genuine Brembo part number for calipers that will bolt straight on.......if anyone knows please do tell.
There are no Brembo calipers that will bolt straight on. You will need to make adapters. I was going to do one for the rear of the ZXR but have never been able to find one here. Like this https://2fiftycc.com/index.php?thre...ot-so-glacial-project.9840/page-9#post-145028
