I've been asked by friends on several occasions why I choose to ride a motorcycle. Because I can but it goes well beyond that I think. One could say it's freedom of chose, but I am positive that were this question given to various people, the answers would vary greatly. At least I hope that's the case as I look forward to a variety of responses to this question. When I first obtained my bike license it was "COOL", cool to ride with friends, cool to have that freedom of movement and practical also, giving your girlfriend a lift to school. Yes I had it all. In later years the bike became a work horse for a short period, the COOL had gone replaced by "practical and affordable". Today, new title called "Thrill", yes that's what I feel everytime I turn that key and listen to that engine, it's a thrill. The thrill of the ride ahead, adrenalin pumping like never before. God it's good and I never tire of that feeling. Of course that's one persons take on it, look forward to reading how others see it and there interpretation on this subject, hope we get some interesting responses, mean time enjoy the ride. Phil
Hi Phil, What a damn fine question sir, why indeed? Because it's fun, therapeutic, relaxing, stimulating and when done right, a great adrenaline fix! The main reason I ride now is to pass on the skills and knowledge acquired over my years instructing in various places, a real sense of satisfaction when it clicks for someone and the grin......................says it all. Hope to see you all out on the road over the break................if the bl***y rains stops long enough
Well, for me it is still COOL among friends Practical and affordable to work Thrill during the weekend (or a night ride) And the best way to clear my head from the fact that my life sux
its been awhile but i await the day i turn the key,my legs vibrate my nuts tingle and my bum shuts up shop, my hand massages the throttle and my heart beats double time. Its time to cruize ;D
Being only new to road bikes I guess i have a good oppertunity to answer this one Theres something different about the connection you get when you get to use your whole body to control a machine, I decided i wanted to ride because I wanted something that wasnt just some boring hunk of metal with almost no connection to the outside, Thril, yhea it was that, Adrenaline, that too, practicality, yhea ok, hell i even liked the idea that it costs me less than 20 bucks a week in fuel. But somehow I worked out that the main reason was I was just far more comfortable and far more happy on something with 2 wheels and a screaming engine, where dropping a gear and twisting that throttle gives me a little giggle every time. ;D
Good question. I grew up on a 7000 acre farm so had a bike from about age 11 - a little 1977 model Honda XR75. I lived on that thing for about 5 years. My mates had bikes. We pretty much ran the entire gamut of 'stupid things to do on bikes' ; down to jumping them into dams and all the d*ckhead teenage things you do when you live 20 mile out of town. In later years the d*ckhead stunts included feigning overnight camping trips when you were really riding your unregistered, un-headlighted bikes into town (using the Crown's roadside stock routes and thus avoiding the law - we knew these tracks backwards). And you know, hooking up with girls and stuff. Then one day I was warming up my Dad's road bike to change the oil in it. A CB250. I came around a left hand 90
