Hello, I bought a FZR250 1988 last saturday. Awesome jump in power from my gn125, problem is I don't know what model it is. I see people in here talking about 3ln or exup. How would I know what model I own? It has Genesis on the tank and exup on the exhaust if that helps.

If it is an '88 and has exup on the exhaust that is very likely to be a 2kr model with exup (obviously). Models are:

2kr - steel frame, twin headlights, single front disc, no exup (1988 and before)
2kr - steel frame, twin headlights, single front disc, exup (1988 and 1989)

3ln - deltabox frame, twin headlights, dual front discs, exup (1989-1991)
3ln - deltabox frame, single headlight, dual front discs, exup (1991-1994)

The years overlap, and there is some conflicting info as to what year certain bikes are.

FYI - the exup is a valve located in the exhaust system which controls the amount of exhaust escaping (increases back pressure) depending upon the number of revs. On the fzr 250 it is designed to start openning at 8000 revs, and completely opens at 12 000 revs. This valve essentially means that the lower power band is more usable. It does nothing to max power (max power on the fzr is around 14000 revs, and as the valve is fully open at that time doesn't affect it), so it doesn't mean that you can go faster if you have exup or not. The exup is used on pretty much all of yamaha's new sports bikes - the fzr's were the first to have them fitted supposedly (the exup did evolve from the ypvs system on 2-strokes).
