As the names suggests I'd like to know what kind of fuel you use in your bike and why. Since getting a bike i'm more inclined to care about what I use, and generally stick to BP PULP 98 RON, although this week I tried 91RON in my ZXR250 and its seemed noticebly down on power. Thoughts? What is RON ? Research Octane Number (RON) The octane number of fuel is a measure of its combustion quality and in particular, its ability to withstand severe engine operating conditions. In order to avoid reduced performance - and even engine damage
depending where I go, i like to use 98, but to be completely honest, most bikes don't need 98, because 98 ignites at a higher point in the chamber, and generally motorcycles have a relatively short stroke... I don't use 98 shell vpower, but I don't mind others
When I bought my bike (Suzuki Intruder) the dealership advised against 98 and ethanol blends. I recently went on a long road trip and found regular unleaded (91) hard to come by, so started using 95 and found the bike runs better on it. The main effect I'm noticing is that it doesn't need as long on choke to warm up. If I've got 91 in the tank, the choke has to stay on appreciably longer to prevent it stalling. I thought that was interesting. What it's doing in the engine itself, I'm not so sure.
I was useing 91 and the upped it to 95 and noticed the difference so I tries a couple of tanks of 98 and definatly noticed it. now all i use is BP98.
yeah only use bp ultimate 98 in everything! bike, v8 road car and kx250 racing dirt kart.... used to work for caltex and tried their 98 vortex but wasn't as good!!!! even my mower ..lol..
When running on regular, I thought the bike was about to roll over and die and I contemplated pulling out the screen and putting it to sleep. Switched to 98 and it's like it has a new lease on life. Ninety eight is great!
I run Either Shell or BP 98 in the race bike, both seem to work ok for me, I always make sure it is fresh fuel, after a race meet anything left goes into the car as i find even after a couple of weeks sitting it seems to not be as good also run the same fuels in my Supermoto (not a 250 but a big thumper
Always use what the manufacturers recommend. As a rule 95 in my bikes, only manufacturer that insisted on 98 was Subaru when I bought the WRX.
i read an intreresting article on a few revheads who tested the true RoN of premium fuels from different companies, they tested several different 95/98's from servos and found that some 95 premiums were as high as 97.8 RoN and some 98 premiums were lower than advertised, but one caltex had their 98 premium showing 99RoN - and its a shame United petroleum servos that sold 100premium are fading away into non existance. that was actually really well blended fuel.
