i was riding down the pacific highway in brissie this morning and i was in 4th gear comfortably doing 12k rpm, then i felt the need to go faster, so i gave the throttle a good twist, for a good 3 sec nothing happened then the speed and rpm rose very slowly, now this has never happened, my bike usually jumps at the chance to go faster. i got off the freeway and had to wait at lights fo 2-3mins and i noticed that there was a weird cyclical noise at idle. im a bit worried but after this the bike seemed to repsond fine. any ideas what it may have been

i realise my details may be brief but thats about all i can say, it just didnt seem normal, and suddenly it was fine??

Carbs iced up. sounds like a good guess to me. Usually only hear of aeroplanes doing it in certain weather conditions. A hi airflow thru the carbs produces a lot of cooling as the petrol evaporates. If cooling is intense enuf it will cause ice to form. Planes lose power and crash because of this.

Firstly as long as you've checked that the headlight fluid is full... we can move on from there.

Dave was being very serious. Carbs icing up can happen for the exact reason he stated before... but it is certainly an uncommon occurance, and i personally don't think thats the reason for the sluggish acceleration.

What sort of condition is the airfilter in? Exup valve adjusted properly?
To me it sounds like a gas pressure problem... being that either the air filter is too gummed up and is causing it to stutter, or the EXUP is out and is causing increased backpressure whilst cruising.

A good way to test if it's the EXUP would be to cruise along exactly as you normally would, then pull the clutch in and give it a nice blip, then clutch out and accelerate full throttle. If it doesn't stutter then i think we've found some evidence. I previously wouldn't have thought the EXUP would have as profound an effect but after tinkering with the EXUP on my big FZR it's incredible what a small adjustment will do!

The headlight fluid was a joke... you got that... right?

What should you do; start troubleshooting - and we're gonna try and help.

tried to take the fairings off today but there is one fkin bolt that the head is destroyed, cannot for the life of me get it off, tried screwdriver, hacksaw but no bannana, went for another ride today to sus it out, 4th gear, 12rpm then pulled the throttle full on, it didnt respond for mayee then 1sec then accelerated reall jerkily, then smootheed out at like 150km/h.

if it only happened once i wouldn't worry about it. Could've just been bad fuel, or some water in the fuel tank or something. I wouldn't go ripping the bike apart unless it was happening regularly or consistantly.
